Hello all,

I’m sure by the end of the day all people with access to socials and following any watch content creator will have seen this.

Neil Armstrong’s gold Speedy with commemorative caseback is coming up for auction at RRAuctions, starting bid at 50K, not sure where it will end, market may be a Buyer’s market but this is coming up at an auction house (if not mistaken) that targets people with interests in USA historic pieces and also focused on space exploration so there may be some non vintage focused collectors who may have an interest.

Anyone care to take a wild guess to what the final price will be? Here’s the link to the auction:

Cheers all

I hope it beats the Newman Daytona, but as Dave Scotts 18K watch did not sell/was withdrawn recently and the market is different from a few years ago, i think it wont.

The winner of the auction can contact MoonwatchUniverse so we can share a dozen photos of Neil Armstrong wearing this Gold Speedie...
Let's tease a few photographs... Montreal Canada, December 1969... Paris France, July 1979

Wow!
And I guess the Omega museum will also be an active party…
Throw in some very very wealthy watch enthusiasts and the sky is the limit!

Had his actual mission speedy that indeed went to the moon ever been auctioned by the way?

@Dsplash
nope, during Apollo 11 commander Neil Armstrong wore a NASA-issued Omega Speedmaster 105.012-65 (NASA #46).
Here's another December 1969 photo of Neil Armstrong wearing his Gold "Apollo 11 tribute" Omega Speedmaster n° 17 chronograph:

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

I believe it'll be the most expensive gold astronaut watch sold and will break 2 million

Indeed, as Neil Armstrong visited the Armed Forces in Vietnam during pre-Christmas period, there're dozens of photos showing people posing with him in Officers' bars and on military bases !

Don't believe so. Armstrong's mission watch was kept by NASA and then transferred to the Smithsonian in 1976, displayed at the National Air and Space Museum. Aldrin's speedie was lost/misplaced/acquired by illicit means afterwards so idea where it ended up.

Can't believe despite the "interwebs" many dates on well-documented events given are still incorrect.
The photo of Neil Armstrong on a boat near the bridge with the small version of the "Statue of Liberty" and Eifel tower in background - Paris was taken in July 1979 as he visited Europe for the 10th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission.
On July 10, 1979 he appeared in the France TV show " Les Dossier de l'Ecran " ( Files on Screen ) wearing his Gold "Apollo 11 tribute" Omega Speedmaster BA 145.022-69 chronograph n° 17...

Can't see it reaching anywhere near 17.8mil that the Newman Daytona achieved, but I agree with the sentiment and your reasoning. I will have a guess and say 2.3 - 2.7mil and 3.5mil if it runs away (which I doubt) without tariffs.

I agree, maybe it does not have an "actors sex appeal" to a wider audience but Armstrongs achievements should make up for that i feel.
Well above 5 mil hammer price i hope.

@ibis888
FYI between April 1965 and April 1969, Omega delivered 5 batches totalling 97 Omega chronographs to NASA.
Thusfar, we know of 88 / 97 by which astronaut and during which mission(s) these were used.
So for Apollo 11:
Neil Armstrong wore n° 46 (105.012-65)
Edwin Aldrin wore n° 43 (105.012-65)
Michael Collins wore n° 73 (145.012-68)

Which would you want to own (and keep not sell for profit) this gold presentation or a basic that had been around the moon?

Moon for me.
