The shopping route is definitely the way to go. You would be amazed how much different a watch can look and feel in person. He might well pop for the planet ocean but he could equally pick something else that he tries on.

As someone who is very particular, I never received a surprise present that was on point. While I appreciate the gesture from a loved one making all the effort in picking something and surprising me, that something will likely not be my first choice. A lot of us on here use terms like "bonding" with watches... which basically means that even after wearing something for a period of time, we are still not sure if we like it...

I am in the camp of letting your husband choose. Let him try a few models in person.
