Interesting! I never realized the meaning of some of the numbers stamped on the clasp before. On the right end, next to "SWISS MADE", is the number "4", and under it the number "70". Does this mean 1970?

Means 1970 quarter 4.

I find it easy to believe a 1969 watch was purchased in 1973 — there was no grey market at the time so if stock didn’t sell it just sat in showrooms until it did. And after the moon landing, I bet a lot of buyers wanted the “new” version with the writing on the caseback — not the old one. Since the OP was the original buyer and has all the paperwork from the purchase, I have no doubt that the inside of the caseback will be marked 145.022-69.

This is true but the #328xxxxx serial quoted above is from mid 1973 to mid 1974, if ILMS is any judge, by which time the Pre-Moon back was long gone. That serial is out of range for a -69 according to SP101 too. As such I still think there is some uncertainty about this set, though there were some screwy things seen in the the early 1970s with serial numbers to be fair.

I would like to see a good clear photo of the serial number on movement and paperwork. Anything is possible with Omega, but some things are a bit unusual.

It would be interesting to know what is written in the case back's inside...
The pre moon movement serial number range ends at 31.629.xxx!

Cheers

Maybe it’s the light, but it does look like it has a stepped dial?

it's a stepped dial that's for sure !

I would very much like to see a photo of the warranty and the invoice.

I am not surprised by the impossibility of having the extract from the archives, it happens from time to time. @Spacefruit has already had this misadventure it seems to me.
well ok, with all the Speedmasters he had in his hands, he must have been confronted with the vast majority of possible cases. He's way ahead of all of us!

That is a bit odd the pre-moon caseback on a 73' Speedy
