The issues with the lume seem clear but am I missing something with regard to the watch having "incorrect hands"? In Speedmaster101 @Spacefruit states that the hands can be either Baton or Alpha???馃槙

So please put your watch for 99c on eBay and then you can get advice for other.
As always, I have no idea what you're saying/trying to say.

Letting it run from a near zero start, will give true market value, in that it's only worth what the market is willing to pay, at a given time.

Well we know we have movement issues, the case looks somewhat soft, the hands look to be relumed, and the dial although ok and reasonably undamaged, doesn't have the kind of patina that makes collectors go nuclear.
However, it looks to be fresh to the market, its largely correct and has a good bezel.
With decent pictures and a backwind I could see you getting $10-12+k on eBay as is. With poor pics on a bad day slightly less, but not much. This kind of watch has a base price now.

As a side note, better pictures may show your watch to be better than what I've described above.

If you are selling, I'd agree with others (as usual, no idea if I'm agreeing or disagreeing with @jurisevac@) that a .99 no reserve eBay auction is the way to go. Good luck.

What jurisevac is saying is that putting a watch on Ebay with no reserve and describing it as not running when it clearly does run doesn't make sense.

But describing it accurately, and listing it for 99p does make 100% sense.

It runs... ok... but the crown falls out... in my book that's not running ok.

But hey, I don't have the strange illness that makes me think watches in this state are worth paying for. 馃え

As it stands, this guy probably has an inbox full of offers... sales rules circumnavigated again. ::facepalm1::

Has anyone noticed the asymmetric bridge?

I dont normally see these on 105002's and less so on movements pre 20m.

I think we should go easy on these first time posters. If the alternative is they don't come here, and we dont see a new watch. I would rather put up with their learning curve. I mean there has to be a way to gently lead them to our way rather than alienate from the start - Im not saying its happened here but it can get silly.

Lets us be judged on how we treat those who break what are to them, unspoken conventions.
(I know we have the stickies, but seriously, when was the last time you read the terms and conditions before clicking "NEXT"?)

Well, if you can come up with a way to stop this kind of getting round the rules lets hear it.
I've said it before and i'll say it again. The 200 post rule is so easy to get round it has become almost unenforceable.

HI
So how should we handle " Sales Fishing" in the discussion forums ( to dodge the 200 post rule) ?

As a mod I do like the members offering constructive suggestions to the OP and not a hard line get loss... message.. show we are humans....

But as others are thinking how many times are we gentle people.. ?

any thoughts?

best

Chris, I'm not looking for an argument but where do you draw the line between running and not running.
I have a speedmaster on which the chrono hand is loose on the post and never resets to the same position twice. In your book is that running or not?

With regard to the sales rules, is it more about 'if you are a known person' or 'what you've got' rather than having 20 or 200 posts under your belt?馃槈 When I first posted my pre-moon Speedy here for advice, I was an un-known person but I was private messaged by members who were interested in purchasing my watch.

It seems that if you have a rare or desirable example and raise it's profile on this forum, it will attract offers and almost sell itself.

Anyway back to the watch: Speedmaster101 describes this Speedmaster as "a very rare reference". Has anybody suggested getting this off to STS , or does the dial make this an unworkable option?馃槙

Is it possible to delete/freeze an account entirely and immediately? That would be my suggestion. That way the attempted seller can't be contacted by potential buyers.

Once the account is frozen/deleted, the mods could email the offender and inform them why their account was frozen and offer to allow the person to re-establish a new account under a new handle with the understanding a future violation would result in the same action and a permanent ban.

look the only time in recent times there was a public problem with the sales was between two sub 200 posters.

If someone wants to contact a one time poster and offer to buy (and I have done it myself) then they do so under Wild West rules. No backup or help from forum. ( nor any bitching in the forum)

I propose the following. We have a third section entitled Wild West. First time posters can sell one watch only. No repeat buisiness. The understanding will be that there is absolutely no protection from the forum organizers and due dilkigence and responsibility lies entirely with the member.

That way we will get to see the one owner family watches being sold by someone who has no interest in spending time to post 200 times.

So Wild West Section
A seller can have One watch only ever from that IP address.
Absolutely no help to be asked for from moderators.
Responsibility for trade safety lies entirely with the member.

Hi @dennisthemenace

That is a great question.... what is running....?

For me when I buy a watch, saying it's running means it ticks.. so you can say the balance is ok etc.... . I then ask can you set the time ? And in this case the defect would be discribed.... a possible answer is if you pull gently yes you can , and or crown and stem comes out... could be a an issue in the keyless system.. like setting yoke and or stem etc...

The more you can describe the working condition of the watch the more stuff you can sort of rule out as being ok and or just needing a service. Like asking hard winding or hard setting...

But even non watch people can say stuff like the above running but the crown comes out ... helps...

Just a thought,,,

Good Hunting

Ya, this seems to be a big problem today... Is there a way to only let people start using the private messaging system once they have ~20 posts? I feel like that would be an interesting preventative measure. Just a thought.

TRF moderates everyone for the first 10 posts. PITA for the mods and gets a lot of gripes from newbies. But it works for them.

I sure as hell didn't before I first posted, just dumb luck that I happened to upload my stupid ass avatar... kinda wish I could do it all over and watch the carnage.

That movement though... where the screws are missing... there's considerable wear from a screwhead on the case, but none on the movement. Seem strange?
