Need advice on SM300 crown for installed tube

Hi,
I need help identifying which crown to install on my SM300 ref. 166.024 from 67. The case has a tube installed but I am having trouble figuring out which crown will fit. Bought a screw down but that doesn't seem to fit. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks 馃榾

I think the remains of the old screw down crown are still on the tube. Unscrew that and you should be good to go.

As I mentioned in the PM's we had, this is not an original Omega case tube, so it's unlikely that an Omega crown is going to fit.

Hi, Thanks for your reply 馃榾
I think it looks like the thread is part of the tube and not just remains.

Hi Archer,
I was hoping there was a crown that would fit over the tube. But maybe I have to find a tube and crown somewhere or someone has a set for sale?
Kind regards

It's hard to tell from the photos, but it almost appears that someone has drilled out the case and tapped the hole to make threads, and then screwed a case tube from some other brand/watch in the case. If that is the situation, then this would require some major restoration work to put it back the way it should be.

The best you might get is a crown that fits over the case tube, but given the exposed threads right near the case, it will have a gap there between case and crown.

When the watch is from 67, shouldn鈥檛 the crown be a Naiad one? I remember the screw down came in 68. But I might be wrong.

Yes, this would have the non screw down version. I don鈥檛 think anyone was implying that this specific watch should have a screw down crown, only that the type of crown this tube is designed for is not Omega, so it is completely wrong.

I have discussed all this at length with the OP via PM鈥檚...

I think that the Naiad crown was substituted in many SM300 because of internal flooding. It would have been substituted with the screw-down crown, and involved to take out the tube, slightly enlarge it to install the tube for the screw-down.
Screw-down crown is found is a number of 165.024 too - because of this,

Thank you everybody for all your input. In my eager I tried to get the "wrong" tube out and I enden up detroying the tube so it is unuseable. I the drilled out the external part (internalpart still there) and it looks like I need a tube with a diameter of 2.5mm so hopefully that will work. I have attached a picture 馃榾

Correct original tube has internal threads.

Thank. I can see that doesn't look anything like the one that was installed on mine.

OP - do you think it might be time to take this to a watchmaker given the potential requirement for restoration and possibility of further significant damage to the case?

Yes now is the time. Just thought it would be a fun project to get it up and running.
