Absolutely! I agree! I love Bristol. I can't think why all the tourist drive down the M4 and stop at Bath Spa.😕

Bristol is a fine historic city, with a wonderful vibe! Tourists are welcome and can join in with local customs, such as "let's all throw a statue in the dock" 😁

Bath is ok I guess.. what did the Romans ever do for us ;0).... but If Christopher Walken thinks Bristol is cool then it still gets a vote :0)

To be fair, he also had a glowing review of Pawtsmuth (Portsmouth), I suspect he visited neither.

Disclaimer, I spent 4 years living in Southsea, it's great.

Nothing wrong with Birmingham..... A few good nights out around Broad Street / trying not to bang my head on a low bridge or fall in a canal around the centre... Old Telly missed out those... but next time I go from that video I will have to channel my inner ring road/ less party times and check out the bypass a bit more ;0)

Avoid Wiltshire like the plague.

It is green, quiet, agricultural full of friendly farming folk and has numerous top class breweries.

Thanks.

The exception that proves the rule…… Swindon, …….you can go there if you must.

You can check-out any time you like, but you can never leave.

The damn magic roundabout!

I had to do this within a week of passing my driving test, how I escaped unscathed is still a mystery.

Property….Depends where you look and how much you want to spend, like most cities.

Check Clifton and Knowle or Whitchurch on Rightmove.co.uk to get a house price range.

Transport is pretty reasonable and good. (For the UK)

I would find somewhere just outside the M25 or upto 30 miles radius outwards - cheaper than London in most places, has local amenities in most of the towns & cities, can commute to London should he wish, and can also have more land than he would ever get in London in terms of living space and gardens....Milton Keynes, Guildford, Southampton and surrounding areas of each are also nice.

I have not looked at the stats for a while. Maybe soon the whole country will be renamed London ;0)

Wales population will reach 3,247,165 by 1st July of 2021
Scotland population will reach 5.517 million by 1st July of 2021
England population will reach 56.223 million by 1st July of 2021.
London population in 2021 is 9.3 Million and ranks 37th populous urban agglomeration of the world

Ah, Swindon, you’ve got to love the Magic Roundabout 😵‍💫

As many have said, Bristol is worth a look. I haven’t been there in a while, but it used to be our halfwayish stop between London and Newquay. Plus it’s relatively close to the Rhossilli peninsula, which is lovely.

Hot Tip - watch Escape To The Country to get an idea of what different counties have to offer 😉 (unless coming from HK a built-up area is preferred).

When I see those populations stats makes me so glad I live in a small town in Montana with 297 people with lots of elbow room screw big cities

How expensive is it to live in Bristol?

Expensive. I have lived here for three years now and it's a nice city. Plenty of culinary, cultural and night life, good links to the Mendips, Cotswolds and Wye Valley but prices have gone up considerably. Over the last few years Londoners have been selling up and relocating. This has sharply increased post covid.

I knew it well and still go back to the area. It also has good links to London and Airports. You can still rent for £700 per month depending on what you want / can put up with. A 2 bed terrace in a better area is £255K plus I guess to buy. The ring road / transport links means places like Yate, Nailsea, Clevedon, Long Ashton, Thornbury, Patchway, Keynsham, Portishead etc are options while still working central (also there is more WFH now for some jobs). I dont think living costs are too bad compared to a lot of places. I still get a nose bleed when I buy a pint in central London :0).

If your looking for a one bedroom flat £700 a month is possible in the slightly less desirable areas. I live in the North part of the city and pay £1200 for a two bed in a large Victorian semi in a nice part of town. In London £1300 gets you a cramped two bed flat in Leytonstone ( where we were before). If home ownership were a priority I would be tempted to hop across the Severn to Newport. Houses are far more affordable there and now the Severn Toll has gone its reasonably commutable by car. Certainly Wales in general has very affordable housing. My grandfathers 3 bed semi in need of modernisation sold for £79k earlier this year. Not great for job opportunities though.
