@Thomas P. - Agree. I wouldn't even consider a watch without all of those. This is the only SSS M95 i've uncovered for sale and I had help getting the referral. The A277 has been much easier to uncover and I'm currently looking at three that are not actively being sold.

Sometimes if it is cheap enough you have to throw caution to the wind. For something like this, a very expensive piece you must be able to see everything and check everything.

Here is my Movado Super Sub-Sea, ref. 95-704-541.

20161230_00007.jpg

The (later) reference number is engraved between the lugs at 12, the inner case back shows the serial number 601, and deep in the movement I found "C: 95M", a proof that the designation cal. M95 is wrong.

Does anybody know the relation between this or other Movado models and the Atomium?

Cheers,

Mick

Nice patina, thank you so much 👍

And here is the other one. Back from service and new alligator straps for the both of them. Is there anyone who know how to estimate production date on this Movados?

There isn't really a way to use the serial number to date vintage Movados. From what I got out of the Von Osterhausen book and my personal research, there is a weird serial number which I can't figure out used up until the late 1950s/ early 1960s. From that point it appears that Movado just started at serial #1 for each reference. One thing I can say though is that Movado began to use the MV logo like the watch on the left in the late 1950s. Judging by the dials on you watches I believe that the one on the left is early 1960s and the one on the right is 1950s. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much. The Air Force changed the crest in 1954ish. Based on that change and the reference number stamped on both my M95, it puts the watches between 1954 an 1966.

@Thomas P. The serial number stamped on the case is 3349 for the one with brown strap and 3367 for the one with black strap. Does that mean that there is just 17 cases produced between this two?

Those 4 numbers should match up with the last four numbers of the serial number on the inside of the caseback. Where there is a serial number greater than 4 digits, only the last 4 would be stamped on the outside of the case in between the lugs on the Movado screw back cases made by FB (Taubert & Fils) the same maker as the one Patek used for its 1463 chronograph. As to your original question, yes there should only be 17 in between the cases. Keep in mind that Movado may not have used the cases consecutively kind of like how an Omega with a movement from 1969 can be used in a case from 1971. Hope this helps.

A few days a go i was taking this picture and by coincidence, when playing with the zoom, i discovered a signature on the caseback. The signature i followed by a five digit serialnumber. Alf Lie was a watchmaker in Norway back in the 1960s and probably where the air force bought the watch. Both my Movado M95 has this signature and serialnumber. Have anyone else seen this on a watch with the Norwegian air force crest engraved?

Can anyone help me with this Movado Sub-Sea M95? Does the hands look ok, or is it relumed? And why the red sub hands and not kriss/snake hands?

That watch is beyond a relume. It is a redial. I can tell this by the font of the M as well as the fact that the minute counter sub register looks uncentered as well as polished at least from what I can see. As for the hands both the kriss and red hands were used over the years. In my eyes unless it is cheap, I would pass.

Thank you @Thomas P. !! I realy appreciate your opinion and knowledge. I hope to get better pictures of the dial and hands to see if this is worth a shot.
