Hello to all :O) I love vintage Movados and I have the chance to get this one, not very cheap but price is reasonable . Do you think that the dial is original or redial ? I really appreciate your help. thanks, David
I vote original. The dial has “Switzerland” spelled out on the bottom. Most rediallers miss this detail. gatorcpa
Thanks , hope more people give some comments as I’m a bit under pressure: buy or not to .... as I have another guy waiting for and don’t want to loose it
I’m sharing some pictures of the bracelet, see the part that is attached to the watch case, not very usual for me. What are your thoughts? There is any data base if Gay Freres bracelet pictures? Otherwise we could build one. Thanks
Still the watch is not in my hands but look what I read at hodinkee Historical Perspectives: Gay Frères, Much More Than A Simple Manufacturer Of Watch Bracelets https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/gay-freres-much-more-than-a-simple-manufacturer-of-watch-bracelets And here an add from GF , it looks like ? Don’t you think so? I have no idea about GF
I suppose so, maybe GF put their name on a bracelet like that, although that bracelet is generically called an Expandro and was sold under the "Expandro" name and several brand names, including Kiefer-Cadman, Henry & Cie, etc. Most likely it's not branded by GF, but even if it is, it doesn't add much value. If you put it on eBay it wouldn't bring $50 IMO. So just value the watch without the bracelet. The more desirable GF bracelets are generally the "original" bracelets they made for specific watch brands and models (Eterna, Zenith, etc.).
Dan S, you are right . Now I saw the pictures of Expandro and the inner end links look like the one on the Movado. Thanks for your input
Looks like you've cleared up the bracelet. The watch is original and in good shape Looks to me to be the slightly less seen 36mm version of Movado's triple calendars. Similar seen here with a slightly outrageous asking price: https://www.timetitans.com/products...s-steel-oversized-rare-original-two-tone-dial
FYI, don’t be quick to dismiss an Expandro bracelet- I have 3 of these and they are one of the most comfortable bracelets made, have an ingenious link system to add/remove links (no tools required-all about finnesse and not brute force), and are the only stretchy bracelet aside of my zodiac rivet stretchy that I will wear. Highly underrated and undervalued.
