Hey folks,
inspired by another recent thread that asked for travel advise, I figured I’d do the same - let’s see where it gets me. 😀
I have basically a day in the city in two weeks time, arriving early morning and leaving late at night. Already have a “date” for the evening but the full day available for sightseeing. Would love a hint or two what to see and maybe a recommendation for a charming Italian lunch / coffee in the afternoon.
Cheers!

Went there in 2012. Can't remember seeing much that was interesting but I do remember getting charged an extortionate amount for sitting down eating a pizza. The sit down fee was about 15 euro for an 8 euro pizza. I believe this is quite standard but it's good to be aware of this practice. Same goes if you sit while having coffee rather than standing at the counter.

Been quite a few years since I was there, but there were small shops around the Cathedral selling slices of different lasagnas, etc. Get a piece to go and eat somewhere in public other then at the outdoor seating of a cafe. Enjoy eating while watching birds swarm the sightseers on the piazza outside the cathedral 😎

Cena Da Vinci 👍: a classic (I guess you have to book a time slot but hey you don't see that one everyday 😀
Other than that I'm not a specialist : use to go there every year for work but that was 10years ago : just loved the city and stroll around... Enjoy the food, coffee and drink 😀

+1, the Last Supper is for sure one I really didn't want to miss.

What about getting out of the city? Take a train to Como. Take the funicular to climb up. You could find a nice place for lunch, a glass of wine.

Thanks a lot - coincidentally, another kind user has already reached out via PM and suggested the same. I've been to Lago di Como plenty of times, but never to Milan, so I'd like to stick to the city for the day 😀

Been to Milan once, had a wonderful time. I lived in Rome for a stint a while back and traveled up to Milan for two days after a few days in Florence. While in Rome and Florence I was lucky enough to do the climb between the domes onto the roofs of each basilica, Brunelleschi's dome in Florence (Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore) and St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. I was hoping to do the same in Milan, but we only had enough time to tour the ground level of the Duomo di Milano. Albeit that was incredible to see and I highly recommend. But I've wondered since what the view would be from the top of the Duomo. Told myself that if I get the chance to go back I definitely with make the time to do the climb.

I'd also recommend visiting the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the arcade is truly a feat of wonderful Architecture.

I'm not familiar of the watch scene out there but there is Fortela Milano owned by Alessandro Squarzi; who (only seen through social media) has a pretty wide ranging watch collection. Could be a bust but I've been curious to visit and who knows, maybe there are some unique pieces in the shop. Hope you have a great trip!.

Duomo is worth a look inside, last supper is cool and quick, Castello Sforzesco is superb too … both the citadel itself and all of the various art/museum attractions within … heaps of superb quality, overpriced vintage watch stores to peek in too
