I have so far avoided further comment in view of the apparent intention by some here to misrepresent my listing. But as I undertook to do, I asked the buyer about his opinion. He is a member of this forum, and it is clear that he was fully aware what he was buying, as he messaged me to say "I have seen articles discussing this watch on the omega forums and know everyone’s opinions on this watch. But it doesn't matter. I can accept this situation."
The listing wording which some have so fiercely criticised was triggered directly by the disagreement here about the status of the dial. I was not willing to say that it was a replacement dial, because some self-proclaimed experts here said it was repainted ; and equally, I was not willing to say that it was repainted, because some posts here indicated it was a replacement. For that reason I used the phrase "non-original dial" because it covers either of those possible situations. This conflict also led me to have no faith that I could rely on EITHER of those "expert" opinions, half of which are apparently wrong. It might have been a variant Compax which never had a model name on the dial ; or it might not be a Compax at all. I'm still waiting for Universal's reply, which may help to clarify once and for all.
For those reasons, I will accept no criticism of my listing wording. Anyone with half a brain would have understood the listing to say that there was an unresolved question-mark over the dial.
Regardless, it is on its way to a happy new owner who will carry out further work. Some of those here should be ashamed of the language they have used, and the level of hostility shown to me ; it is unprecedented in my experience of various forums over 20 years, and does not show members in a good light at all.
