Have a surgical procedure over there, recover, return home, have a problem here with the surgery, and find nobody where you live will treat you? No thanks!

To be fair there are a lot of dedicated, competent caring doctors in India who aren鈥檛 solely focused on profit, they鈥檙e doing the best they can with what they鈥檝e got, but as I said earlier it鈥檚 the ones whose focus is to prioritise money that are the ones who tend to practice in medi-tourism, having said that I have heard of some that practice in medi-tourism that use the money generated to help the less fortunate, sadly these guys are in the minority.

well, dental care is the only medical procedure I would risk doing abroad for significant savings. For example, many Greek people go to Bulgaria and they are quite happy with the work provided. There is always risk, but that is why you need to do proper research beforehand.
I just need to stop fighting when on holiday ;0)

Hi everyone, My dad was thinking of visiting India later this year for orthopaedic care, as the treatment there is quite cheap. We did find apollo hospital in Delhi is quite good. Does anyone have any prior experience over there? I'm a little unsure of the process. I have a few questions. Which cities or hospitals would you recommend for good-quality treatment? Is there any paperwork necessary? Also, he'd love to do some sightseeing as well. He has Taj Mahal in mind. Any other recommended place?
Actual surgeon here. My advice: don't.

Expensive doesn't always mean good, just the same as cheap doesn't mean bad. But you want to look at the entire health ecosystem, the likelihood of rare but devastating consequences, and how they might be handled.

Screen for quality, not price. Once you've established your acceptable standard, then think about the cost afterwards.

There you have it.....the total cost may be more than can be calculated by mere monetary means!

Yea I went to that hospital you mention, Apollo Hospital in Delhi for a knee reconstruction, while I was under anaesthetic the team at Apollo Hospital in Delhi took selfies with my ugly looking feet which they posted to social media and removed one of my kidneys, which they presumably sold on the black market. I still have the bad knee. 0/5 stars, wouldn鈥檛 use Apollo Hospital in Delhi ever again.
Damn these kidney reviews. Now I can't even be sure if it's sarcasm or real stories.

My next door neighbour went to Turkey for a hair transplant procedure. Said it was 25% of the cost of having it done here, and that the flight was full of guys with bandaged heads on the way back. He said it was like a well oiled machine how they had places to stay all set up, transport to and from the airport, and to and from the hotel to the place where the work was done - entire trip took 3 days.
I fly via Istanbul a lot. The place is full of men with tiny red dots all over their heads.
I am quite amazed at the number of men getting their roofs fixed. I suppose it must be a big deal.
If I was going bald, I would just get it shaved and be done with it.
You see some terrible attempts at trying to hide the shiny pate. No one is fooled except perhaps the person trying to hide their balding head.

Apparently it's a pretty well established industry in Turkey. These days it seems like the tech is a bit better than it used to be, lots of examples of celebrities doing it that you might not have noticed. Elon for all his faults is a good example, he was going completely bald in his PayPal days. Lewis Hamilton is another. I would guess there's more celebrities than we know who have had hair transplants, remembering that more than half of all men go bald.

You're not far off, David. In addition to a hair transplant, a former colleague of mine also flew to Istanbul to get his teeth completely redone. In addition to all things follicular, cosmetic dentistry is another booming tourist business in Turkey.

He's a creative designer and created digital mock ups as guides for the desired outcome he was hoping for. Apparently, it assisted in the preparation even though he's no dental technician. Again, these were meant only as guides. Anyway, they gave him a very natural full smile after grinding down this, shaving down that, and veneering the works. Like a goddam Crest commercial now! Well, sort of. That was around two - three years ago. However, the poor bugger spent all of Christmas week 2023 in Istanbul getting the entire procedure redone; the pain must've been ridiculous. The dentists here on OF must be grinding their teeth.

As for his transplanted follicles, his hair is full but there's something unmistakably toupee-ish about the whole thing. It's his hair, sure but looks rather wrong. To me, that is, a guy who had 80's drummer hair; early 90's long, curly drummer hair; and has been happily shaving my head for 25+ years since a skullet is unthinkable. Of course, many hair transplants look fabulous. Even I have to admit that Elon and Elton look pretty darn good.

So yeah: I'm bald, visually my teeth are an astronomical unit away from a toothpaste commercial (but are fine otherwise) and I don't give a toss. At 62, my modeling aspirations are long over.

(My advice? Get the work done here. Mind you, a purple or green-dialed Speedmaster might be a nice momento of your trip to Delhi)
