Rolex Explorer Question | Omega Forums

The watch was sent to Rolex. Because the dial was replaced, they will not service it. They believe it to be an authentic watch but won't confirm that it is authentic. They are sending it back to me next week. I always had doubts about it being real and hoped this would end the mystery however I still don't know.

As far as I know they do not work on old references anyway. I’d hop on over to the vintage Rolex forum and get a better idea about the dial’s originality. Make sure you take really nice and clear pics.

If you could guide me to a vintage Rolex forum that would be great. Some seem like scams.

The conclusion is there I think: original watch with a redone/repainted dial

There must be a watchmaker near you that services Rolex watches — most reasonably-sized cities will have two or three. If you are really concerned if it is real, just take it to them and they will appraise it (for a small fee) or service it.

As others have said, the dial appears to be a poor repaint (or outright fake) but the rest of the watch looks real. The watchmaker might even be able to source a better dial for it through their contacts.

Dial will take time to find and will be expensive but considering you got the watch for free, $2200 for a dial and $800 for service isn’t too bad. Remember you need a specific era 1016 dial that matches the date range of the serial.

Did Rolex say the case and movement are of an actual 1016? Or they just said except for the dial it is “a” Rolex?

If you can, get that in writing from Rolex.

Are we really still doing this? What is the question now? If it wasn't obvious before, even Rolex is telling you that the dial isn't legit ... case closed.

Are you now asking about the rest of the watch? Show sharp high-resolution photos of the engravings between the lugs, inside the case-back, etc.

You need to back up your attitude. There is no question if you read what I posted. Just thought I'd put what the final outcome was, simple as that. You're the reason I don't like forums.

No offence, but there is a question mark in your title:

No-one is forcing you to start pointless new threads. Of course Rolex returned your watch, everyone already told you that the dial was fake or repainted. If all you wanted to do was make that announcement, you could have added it to the previous thread.

The title has a question mark and in your OP, you complain that there still a mystery about whether the watch is real. There is obviously a question you are trying to ask. But apparently you don't want to show good photos of the rest of the watch to learn the answer.

Dan, he wants someone to sprinkle magical vintage legitimacy dust and to tell him it’s real. That won’t happen over at TRF either. This thread is raising cortisol levels and should to be put out of its misery.

I honestly don't care if it's real of fake. I found this watch in a box of stuff that was willed to my when my uncle passed away. I'm more interested in why he would even have this. So, my first step was to find out real or fake then try to find the origin. That's the only reason I'm on here.

Sorry I didn't know the rules of this forum. Starting new threads is common on the motorcycle boards I'm on. Second, I'd be happy to show pictures as soon as I get the watch back. It's been on a 3-week trip from the local Jewler to their headquarters then to Rolex, then back to the headquarters and I should have it back today. Third I found this watch in a box of stuff that was willed to my when my uncle passed away. I'm more interested in why he would even have this. So, my first step was to find out real or fake then try to find the origin. That's the only reason I'm on here.
