here is my horribly aged, imperfect, beater of a UG. so many imperfections!

maybe, just maybe, if i'm really lucky i'll find an owner of the Uniracer to trade me for their new perfect thicker example straight up. it would be worth it just for better lume

Just ordered! should be here tomorrow with overnight shipping.

yeah, that surprised me too as i already wrote, just put the M upright and make it your own brand. Now for his next release he has to decide again, weird.

They own watches, not the legacy of the brand, nor the copyright and only a small section of the moral highground on what is correct and not. To many in the bubble here `we only want original` but at the same time supporting the greatest copy brand of all that Omega has turned in to.

Someone made a great new watch because there is room in the market for it and the lazy HK brand owners let this great brand go to waist.

Omega reintroducing their OWN designs (which is probably one of the best heritage lines available) i
oh its Heritage now....
Defending the Trilogy 1957 as one of the best reintroductions, ehhhh 1 to 1 copies you mean .... is a painful denial of the creative drought Omega seems to be suffering from. Rehashing the Speedy into eternity is a cash cow with limited editions running into the thousands. I d much prefer a 200 piece imited edition - which a strong design and a modern movement, and affordable.

Oh you mean the Massena Big Eye ? Yes , great watch and y`all have a great day .

Well one thing is very clear with this watch, which is its launch was a complete dud. They made 200 of these and they still aren’t sold out and they are being peddled by the dink which specializes in selling overpriced watches. The watch is clearly way overpriced given its Sellita movement (it is not even the higher grade version of the movement) and clear copy of the original.

is a painful denial of the creative drought Omega seems to be suffering from.

Unlike what other major brand? Rolex? Zenith? Breitling? AP? PP? Blancpain? ...

Point being, perhaps it’s not a “creative drought” but instead - as with each company above and others - it turns out that a large segment of mechanical watch fans do not really want change and the brands simply behave in kind.

After all, with the world of forward-looking watches at your fingertips, look what you chose to purchase.

At the same time, the sort of watch fans that frequent this forum also tend to ignore the other significant number of more innovative watch offerings by these brands or other brands - which only furthers the perception that watch brands are in a “design drought.”

We like old stuff.

We like old stuff so much brands reach back.

We like old stuff so much that people build middling knock-offs of brands that no longer exist and they get purchased!

Don't worry, they have a multi-pronged advertising campaign underway. One prong is 'advertising' it on watch forums such as OF, under the guise of a happy purchaser.

Bingo! Although "happy" is not the term I'd use.

Au Contraire, ye off little faith, very happy indeed !

A sad ol` group here, i had to endure name calling already, and people try to ridicule choices or views for a mere lack of understanding or for being to afraid to go out of there bubbles of perception, no window opened for a fresh wind. Is nothing beneath you ? As little as 10 ? original pieces dominate the voice of all and proclaim restriction and fight, as so clevery drawn by one of you, like Quichote against windmills of renewal and progress. For sure heading into oblivion as you are all to afraid to go against the pack.

Apart from this one enlightend mind, i thank you Sir ! who puts it so eloquently :

Well to those who chearish the original, be happy and why so scared or insecure about this new coming ? What harm can be done to your Original as it is so.... original ?

Oh dear me, Omega did the very same thing with the 1957 Trilogy, but was already owner of the movements ( handwound ) and already had the design etc etc but it still took them MORE THAN 3 YEARS to bring to market and a staggering price of EURO 6500,- a piece give or take, about twice what the Massena costs.

The lack of serious arguments here is very dissapointing given the strength of opposition against this watch. And as it doesnt look like we are moving closer to each other views, this will be my last comment on this subject. Lets hope we meet in a kinder tone in another sub forum.

How in the world did you make that connection? Do you know this guy?

It showed up in the newly listed 'Universal Geneve' items on ebay with very familiar looking images. No.

How in the world does he think he'll get $500 over MSRP when it's already widely publicized as still in stock at Hodinkee and Massena's site?

Hodinkee also offers free shipping, doesn't charge sales tax, and will pick up import duties. Unlike this eBay listing....

Also, I thought his main argument was that this was quite original... yet look at the item's title.

"like Universal Geneve"

... yet another pump-and-dump scheme, how surprising from Hodinkee and their cohort ::facepalm1::
