Ever since i got the Exotic Seamaster it seems i kind of started admiring the Racing dial Speedmaster. Your thread was a bad influence 😜
Obviously not that cool like the vintage MKII dial, but i like the pop of colour nevertheless. 🙄
Unfortunatelly the orange chrono hand arrived damaged, had to improvise a little..

Only just seen this thread. As a lover of the Mk2 I will confess this type of thing makes me feel kind of sad, but at the same time I can't deny that these do look amazing and I would never critisize somebody for doing what they want with what they own. To each their own.

I would still love a Mk2 Racing myself some day, I feel I have missed the train at this point though so will just be content with my regular black one which I do love wearing.

I get your point, if i buy a completele watch i usually prefer to leave it as it is, in its original state. But e.g. the Speedmaster with racing dial was put together exclusively from spare parts, which i sourced over the years, that were floating around internet. It has taken a few different reincarnations already over the years 😀
So if i find some spare parts online, i kind of try to make use of them, "recycle" 😀
And its a lot of fun.

Btw, there are still a few affordable MKII out there.

Oh I agree there, I was more referring to the decommissioning of Mk2's for parts, but again I can understand people doing so.

Recently ish… had all of the pieces for this and figured why not. Original 69 case and bezel, added an exhibition caseback. 69 caseback and mark II bits and pieces kept for who knows what.

Love that Seamaster dial !! And question ; your Speedy Racing dial does not say Mark II , but others do. Different ref nr or series ?

Still on a similar theme, as the 60s racing style was the inspiration (read: clone) for that watch 👍

Thanks !
And no harm done in this racing thread i hope, as i learned some more 👍 . Just checked the pricing for the Japanese ones.... ouch . The vintage MKII seems my best chance of getting one.

As much as I love strap season…I’m alsways happy when bracelet season returns…

I never would have thought this watch gives the pleasure it does. Any newly finished projects?

Mine is pretty rough, but that’s half the charm.
Still to change the mk2 hands.

Updated, with the same dial, some hands different, some Samesame

Btw, there is a lovely “made up” Japanese racing for sale in the UK. £5k I think.
Made from a brand new Speedy n racing dial/hands

Just stumbled across this thread...and I gotta hand it to @eugeneandresson !!! My uncle's ck 2414-2 that I inherited got me re-interested in vintage watches but what really sent me down the rabbit hole was the racing track dial of a Chronostop Drivers (145.010) that I found buried in a local watchmakers display case. When I learned of the original racing edition Speedmasters and the Japan racing edition, I had already missed the boat on an entry price that I could fathom, but this thread gives me hope! Thanks for starting this one Eugene and I hope to one day join the project racing club.
