Some truly outstanding work here, gentlemen. Many thanks to @eugeneandresson for the original inspiration—seeing everyone’s mods gave me the confidence to finally try my own Mark II → Speedy Pro recase.
After several attempts trimming a new stem to length, I finally got one to fit perfectly. This project wouldn’t have been possible without the guidance of @gdupree, who very generously walked me through my first mod.
The trickiest part for me was getting the stem to lock correctly. In my case, I needed to fully insert the stem and back off the setting lever screw about a quarter turn to allow proper alignment before it would engage as expected.
This thread was incredibly helpful and made a big difference:

Thread 'Cal. 861 stem question...' ·Having a hard time envisioning this: what actually keeps the stem from pulling all the way out? Is it just the tip of a little screw?M'Bob ·
Will add more shots with the spiral winder luminous DON ceramic bezel activated. Can’t wait to see the pairing.
Wow these builds look amazing!!
I've had similar ideas on if I could re-case the Omega 1045 (Lemania 5100) movement from a MK4.5 into a standard style speedy case (was thinking 145.022) and this thread makes me excited that it could happen! Any guidance / thoughts on if that build could work, or how I would go about verifying before buying all the donor parts?
I am pretty sure that will not fit, as the 1045 is thicker then a 861 movement, the Omega Caliber 1045 (based on the Lemania 5100) movement itself has a height (thickness) of about 8.2mm, but the overall watch case thickness varies significantly by model, generally ranging from around 15mm to over 15.8mm.
It will fit in a Tissot Navigator case.... or similair Omega case
