Here's one that meets all my requirements. Have to consider this also. But certainly a lesser watch it is!

Nothing wrong with a Movado. The "museum watch" is a classic in its own right.

Yes, a classic cyclops.

I spend........ Interestingly, I stoped by the Tissot Boutique that they had a watch that fit the bill within my budget. Here's a pic. Just wish it didn't have the date. Considering it...

Dear @ctpete

I spent an hour browsing the websites looking for a watch for you with your absolutely strict criterias. There were a couple of candidates but I wanted the best for you but failed miserably & decided to abandon search

Seriously....from Nomos & the other German usual suspects all the way to Tissots, Longines , Hamiltons & the Japanese brands & now you tell me that's the 0ne ?

I had scanned repeatedly through that Tissot model searching for a nein datum

Seriously I'm disappointed because now there's a compromise & you like that 0ne ? I dont know about the others but I'm a person who would go all out to help a fellow member but help me by giving me correct instructions.

Anyway here's another 2 watches to consider 573deff713ae68a89db9df51ee06c715.jpg a71eb94a5d5a8a18fec5ffd3ed562119.jpg

Next time Include Me Out !

For a tuxedo watch that would only be worn occasionally, the Orient Bambino is hard to beat. As has now become obvious, no-date gold/black dial dress watches are pretty thin on the ground!

*Edit* Found another one 😉

So far the Junghans are killing everything else in this thread.

'cept that gorgeous AP. 🥰 ( 😜 )

The Tissot isn't terrible though.

Yes, I do apologize for compromising so soon after asking for assistance. It was a symptom of my frustration with myself. I too have looked extensively and have not found anything but the Movado that "strictly" meets my conditions. But your searching was not in vain! The Orient Automatic you picture has my interest. I had not seen it previously. While it does have the date, it otherwise is charming. It gets serious consideration.

Thanks to you, and others here, for taking the time to search and offer suggestions.

Pete

I third the Bambino. Although they are a tad large. Huge variety, this my grey sunburst.

The no-watch rule was because:
At an evening gala event, you are supposed to be enjoying yourself so much that you don't care what time it is.
Evening dress was standardized before wristwatches were popular.

I hope no one seriously takes the way Bond dresses in the movies as the way people should dress in real life. He wears the watches that Rolex, Seiko, Omega, etc., pay him to wear. (Speaking of fantasies...) Also, he might go from a wedding reception to a gunfight without having time to change.

Actually Rolex never paid for placement, nor supplied the watches. The books clearly stated Bond wore a Rolex.

I do take Daniel Craig seriously @kkt 1c58d259f010b7212856184792630c05.jpg Remember the Casino Royale scene on the train....
Vesper Lynd : Rolex ?
Bond : Oh- Mee- Ga
Vesper Lynd : Beautiful

As @Superdoc can testify , Omega DIDN'T KNOW ,had NOTHING to do with that movie dialogue and DID NOT pay anyone for that line to be included in Casino Royale. Those words were chosen by the Screenwriter himself if memory serves me correctly & @Superdoc actually has a photo taken with the gentleman !

I think the Junghans are under appreciated. The hand winding models have an even nicer dial, with small seconds and no date, but there is no gold/black configuration.

This one doesn't meet your criteria completely but it does look great with the tux.

Prieto9000 - Very nice indeed. Can you tell me the reference?? Although it has the date function, the date's black background mutes it. Also, I assume it is available in gold. I can check that. I see it goes well with your silver cufflinks. Most of my tuxedo jewelry is gold (studs, cufflinks, etc.) hence my interest in a gold watch. Thanks for sharing.
