I’m still a little confused as to the original poster saying the dial had been redone, then arguing it had not been redone...

Don't see where the OP said that, he said the dial had been painted but I can't see where he said otherwise.

As to @Syrte making a terse reply:

terse
təːs/
adjective
  1. sparing in the use of words; abrupt.

Hi, A greeting
What do you mean by « just sent this watch »? A question
Did you buy it, sell it or both? A question
Not sure about what you characterize as unusual patterns. Unclear as to OPs words
However the dial is refinished, the crown is a replacement, and the gold plating is damaged. Stating an opinion, and gold filled is a form of plating so is an acceptable use for an "English second language" writer.
So its value as a collectable item is limited, gold plated and gold filled examples are not so rare, but the important thing is that like it and that you like its history. A summary (opinion) and encouraging with "the important thing is etc."
Best regards A closing salutation
S

Heavy handed? Unprofessional? Terse?

I hardly think so.

BTW, I'm not fighting her battles because she is a woman (she is quite capable of that I'm sure) but when I see her first response, and the drift that follows I'd just like to get some clarity back into the discussion.

Regards

Jim

I think OP was upset at suggestion that collectability was limited.
Many things are at play here, & the OP may be as much enamoured of history & provinence, as he is with details of the watch.
I found his posts unclear.

Getting so upset over Syrte's post is ridiculous.

@JimInOz

That’s what I’m referring too. Repainting a dial is redoing a dial. Granted it’s a little more redone then he thinks...

The miscommunication was it’s a rare piece... but from a watch collectors standpoint a collector would hold out for a better more original example. It’s an odd small market for these amazing historical pieces. It would make a great piece for an aviation collector, but not exactly for acwatxh collector. The problem and disconnect is what then is the value... for a watch collector looking for one of these it has little value.

The OP appears to be someone who buys estates and is using the forum to assess and possibly sell watches.

In that light of course attacking the bearer of bad news you don’t want to hear is a relatively unsurprising human reaction.
Even though you’ll note @Jim.c. if you wanted to know it’s value for resale purposes as it seems, my reply was as « professional » as you could ever find, factual and reasoned. I bet you would have been more respectful and thankful to a paid appraiser giving you the same information.

In any event I sincerely hope that UG big eye @Jim.c. found last April got sold to a forum member.

@gatorcpa maybe the mods should give him an exemption to sell here, as estate watches brought fresh to the forum could perhaps at least bring some value.

Best regards
