I would like to share with everyone my family heirloom, my grandfathers WWI Longines Chronograph. He searved the Austro-Hungarian navy from 1913-1917, defusing naval mines, so this watch was used as a proper 'tool' watch to save lives. The watch has K.u.K Kriegsmarine engraved, and my Grandfather and I have the same initials (J.K), also envraved on the back, so it's a nice bonus. I find that the watch is in pristine condition, runs perfect to this day. I'm very proud of this piece and its history, and glad I can share them with you.
OMG. Particularly as it's a Longines, a movement shot is required. It must be gorgeous. I’m pretty sure that’s somewhere in the Fourm rules. Right? Edit: prefect timing!
Thank you for sharing. A wonderful family heirloom and story. My Grandfather also served in WW1 with the US Army, first in the calvary then in artillery. My Grandfather was from the capitol city of Prussia, Konigsberg and left just prior to the start of WW1 with his father in 1914. He signed up for the US Army in 1916, later fought in WW1 and then stayed behind with the occupation forces in the Rhineland because of his fluency in German and French. We still have his WW1 Army rifle, sidearm, and a German Luger he borrowed.
What an incredible beauty and wonderful that you are fortunate to have the piece in your possession. A super beauty and what a history.....
