Black Dial Longines Chronograph: Redial or Original?

Hi everyone,

I’m new to the forum and first time poster.

I have recently stumbled down the Longines chronograph rabbit hole! (wow, what a world!)

I have a puzzle… well it is for me at least! Have you come across this black dial configuration before? I can’t find another one like it. Is it a redial?

Unfortunately I don’t have access to the watch and can’t get the serial number.

The batons at 5, 25, 35 and 55 seem to be floating closer to the centre than other watches like this, plus the batons don’t look aligned/centred with their corresponding minute line.

The hands on the two sub-dials seem to have been switched? Maybe put back on the wrong sub-dial during a service?

Apart from the sub-dials and winged hourglass logo the black dial one seems to roughly match this watch: https://www.watchprosite.com/page-w...just-for-the-pure-pleasure-of-sharing-an-old/

Also, on the 30minute sub-dial there are extra long minute markings at 3, 6 and 9 minutes. I haven’t seen that on many dials apart from this early 1950’s 5966: (https://onlineonly.christies.com/s/...ck-chronograph-wristwatch-ref-5966-343/207758)

The quality of the pictures usually correlates with the subsequent disappointment upon purchase.

Yeah, completely understand. I just can't seem to track down another that looks like this... therefore wondering whether it's a redial using spares/getting inspiration from other references?

It’s a redial

To date this is the only 30ch with steel case and original black dial known (so excluding the 30ch in gold with French case that do not have the hourglass) It is a reference 6592 It's published in the Longines book by Goldberger and in the book "Longines watches that made History"

Wow, now that is a good looking black dial!

Just following up with another black dial, as I watched this Time+Tide video recently... At 16:40 they bring up a black dial 3870 from 1941.

It looks like it has just come out of the factory... and doesn't have a tachymeter scale?
