I was offered very recently a CK2998 Pulsation version "doctors watch" at an interesting price (10% below € list). BNIB with stickers. The person who bought it first, decided not to wear it but resell it instead. Unfortunately I already own that same watch so was not able to take the offer.... The interesting part here is that it seems to be possible to find a LE below list price.
Just found both the 60th Anniversary LE Speedmaster and Seamaster in Stock at the Amsterdam (Schiphol) Airport travel retail. Fairly priced as well.

To me, it is yet another indication that buying LE’s as an investment is not very sensible. So I’ll just continue enjoying the few that I own and wear them, a lot.
So far, what I've observed, any LE that's substantially more than 2000pcs OR "less attractive" in history/design often dip below retail.

Interesting.. That's what happens when you release many Limited editions. Look at Hublot storefronts and 90% of the watches there are limited editions.😁

Maybe because 90% of them were designed by myopic graduates with no understanding of style and sophistication ::stirthepot::

Haha, you got a point! While most of Omega's LEs are not bad at all, the problem is when a LE doesn't become very exclusive since the overproduction of LEs decreases the demand for them.😉
I mean, what is this?😁😲

I'm buying the watch, not the edition.
Agree....was not impressed with my Cernan being LE....just fell in love with the watch. Went in OB to buy a Aqua Terra and walked out much lighter in the wallet.

I think that it is far too early to state that this or this model will not be actively thought in a distant future, whatever present conditions. 10 years ago, PP aquanauts and nautilus did not generate massive interest. Same for early Royal Oaks (in whatever number they were produced) 15 years ago… Then you can speak of Speedies 2998 that you could find easily at less than 10k$ 5 years ago… Things may change fast and interest my grow or shrink in an unpredictable manner. What is sure though is that, as JC Biver puts it, if the youth does not embrace wearing wristwatches, then we may face a global oversupply problem that will ultimately drive prices down across the board on the secondary market.

True. Though to make it clear am not trying to predict future collectibility. What I meant by 'dip' is that at some point after its release, the prices do get below retail. Either just for a moment, or for a longer period. It's just based on my own experiences. I've had the chance to buy 2016 2998, 2018 2998, FOIS, Speedmaster 60th Anniversary all below retail at some point after its release. In new condition and from ADs/greys I've never even bought from before. I believe this is simply because releasing 2998-3557pcs create an immediate supply that is simply too large for the demand to absorb. It takes time for the the demand to grow or supply to persuade potential buyers (if it took too long usually through discounting). However, once all the new ones are gone, prices may go to any direction, depending on the future demands.

On the other hand, most releases with +-2000pcs or very desirable designs (SpeedyTuesday 1 and 2, Silver Snoopy, Titanium Apollo XI 45th, Tokyo2020 White Panda) are less likely/never have I seen been offerred below retail. Never "dipped" below retail. I think simply because +-2000 is a sweet spot between the immediate supply and demand.

Interesting fact is also the "tin2". For as long as I could remember, when people tought production was 3000-5000pcs, its price was more or less retail. Yet once old stock supply from Asia dried up and it was found that less than 2000pcs produced, the price skyrocketed.

And don’t forget the Spectre SM 300 with 7000+ pieces. It’s still going pretty strong.

Ah yes. I was generally referring to Speedmasters.
For Spectre I was initially quite puzzled. 7007pcs, yet still very strong. My guess would be the desirable design (no 007 on dial-side and other nice little details), and larger demand from Bond-fans. As I heard it is the first-ever LE timepiece to be worn by 007 himself in the movie. I believe previous 007's wear the non-LE versions on screen? Do correct me if I'm wrong.

Has anybody come across an Apollo 17 45th anniversary Gene Cernan in stainless steel?
Not sure if it's there anymore, but at an AD in Vancouver earlier this year, there was one that I tried on. Matched my ring perfectly.

An excellent alternative to the Daytona, to be honest. 😀

At the current Daytona prices, several Speedy's can be had, and a nice collection started.

Congrats on the grab!

Must increase ratio of watch pictures.

A few successful LEs from the past

The visual attractiveness, I think, is the single most important element. A lot of Omega’s LEs are marred by ugliness, sometimes faint and sometimes overwhelming. We all know the candidates.

Ugly watches don’t sell and won’t be lusted after.

Was at my local OB yesterday and the closest thing I saw to a LE was a Grey Side ‘Meteorite’. There was also a DSOTM ‘Black Black’ watch, which should probably be a LE as it’s extremely difficult to read the time on it!

I have handled one of these, great if you have no need to ever know the time!

Indeed, it really needs something like Timex’s Indiglo function! Having said that, it probably works really well at night...
