I'm seriously thinking about adding the new Explorer as both my first Rolex and first modern watch, in the next few months.

It'd be really interesting to see some thoughts of any members who manage to get hold of one of the first ones.

Does anyone have any idea when the new Explorer will be for sale? I checked at an AD in Oklahoma City and only the trasitional was available and the clerk had no clue. I'm sure that the coasts and Vegas will have it before the midwest states but was just curious.

I believe end or third or start of fourth quarter.

should we hope for a huge price drop on the current E1 (pre owned, 39mm) when the new one hits the street?

We'll see. Don't think so because Rolex don't normally have huge price drops. I may or may not sell mine when or if I get a new one. It has the same movement and different characteristics like the white gold numerals and, of course, the short hands. So it's not like it becomes obsolete. I'm fact in a decade or so it may become more desirable than the current. Who knows really...
