I am new to UG, but all vintage ug should have reference number stamping outside the caseback and inside should have Ug logo, am I right. I am interested in one locally but the casebacking missing those infos.

There is no “always” with UG.

sometimes case reference and serial are inside case back rather than outside. Logo is mostly inside but not always, but these things should be in one of the two locations, if they are missing altogether that’s not good

Sending this one off to a new home today (not easy...) but couldn’t resist sharing here, along with a signed letter that accompanied it from Watches of Switzerland to its (presumably) original owner in November, 1950 (70 years ago!!). THIS is why collecting vintage watches is so much fun! :)

Thanks MarktheTime for sharing, you've motivated me to pull a Tri out of the safe for a Sunday outing.

Priceless when connections are established to previous owners such as in the form of the letter you presented....really brings home that in most cases we are caretakers rather than owners as these watches will more than likely be worn long after we are gone.

So true. And documents like these are fascinating to me... literal time machines (as are the watches, of course). Actual paper. Hand signed! Real people in real places 70 years ago! So cool.

when you do obtain this grail, I highly recommend paring with an Aaron bespoke strap. It’s like a match made in heaven!

how do you like having a 24 hour dial? I had one once and didn’t get used to it, but didn’t really give it much time. I like the look, but wasn’t used to programming my brain to switch between 12 and 24 hr dials.

I use GMT watches often, so perhaps the reprogramming is less? It’s only one nudge forward to have both zones on 24hr scales.

Although I’m in the U.S. and not amongst the professions that regularly use 24hr clocks, huge blocks of the world use 24hr time, as do various professions requiring unambiguous time coordination (e.g., medicine, aviation, etc.) - so I’m actually surprised we see so few 24hr dials/movements.

When I first started traveling frequently overseas, I had a couple of Victorinox quartz sports watches with 12/24 hour dials. Thank goodness for those because I’d have missed planes and trains and meetings.

I still regret not bidding on this one years back. I passed because it was not oversized ::screwloose::

But I'm glad you got it !
