I agree 100% and picked up on this same "master race" thread in his posts.

Fine. I don't see it myself but your opinion is up to you. I have no interest in defending the OP who I think is talking nonsense. I do however think that if you're going to start calling people out as racist, that's quite serious and there needs to be some actual substance to the accusation rather than just "picking up on" something nebulous that can be interpreted any way you choose.

Sorry, but I feel exactly the opposite way. @tyrantlizardrex is not required to have definitive proof of racism in order to point out that the OP's comments smell bad, and I commend him for doing it. Maybe you're not aware that there is a growing white nationalist movement in the US that uses certain language (as well as symbols and hand signals) to communicate their ideology. I have no idea if the OP is a member of this group, but it is a time to be vigilant, and it is totally appropriate to let everyone reading the thread know that such language is unacceptable on OF.

I'm not up on their coded language. To me, his remarks just read like flippant national stereotyping. Please explain to me where the racism comes in as I should like to know what's going on.

I honestly can't see why the OP was booted. The redialed watch was a good starting point for a debate on sending a vintage watch to Omega or not, now he'll just leave here none the wiser and thinking that we're jerks.

Yeah, I didn't pick up on the racism either- just some fantasy that the Swiss are capable little elves with magic powers that people elsewhere don't posses.... I guess I missed the subtlety. I'm usually pretty sensitive to it (particularly anti-semitism) so if I stretch my AS radar I guess I can see a a hint in the New Jersey/New York watchmaker/jeweler stereotype versus the vision of blonde Swiss working away in the Alps..but that would really be a bit of a stretch....unless there was wording from the OP that was deleted and I didn't see it (and I was following the original thread and this one since it was directed at my comments from the other thread originally)....which could be possible.

So Teutonic is a word I didn’t associate with something derogatory- I always interpreted it as being fastidious with great attention to detail as the Germans have been known to be- but I guess if you look at the word in the historical perspective of around 75 years ago.... yeah, I can see it being inflammatory- I guess it’s all about how one interprets the use of words

And tell everyone on any other watch related forum he is a member of.

I agree absolutely with this. I see the OP was making some generalisations regarding the super efficiency that is often associated with that part of the world and regularly used as a marketing tool ("Vorsprung Durch technik" comes to mind) however I find it a hard stretch to equate this with Master race ideology.
The Op was denying some village an idiot as far as I can see so have no interest in coming to his defence but the word Teutonic itself is no more derogatory than Anglo saxon for instance. It has been used in literature and by poets for generations to describe peoples of this region.

I don't know but I get verklempt when I think of the watch being serviced in a cleanroom with all that clean Swiss air. I bet none of the local watchmakers can afford that kind of setup? Plus there's just something about sending the watch back to its birthplace that makes me happy. When I think about the preciseness of Teutonic personalities working on my watch vs that of someone from New Jersey. Is that even a fair comparison? After all, there's a reason these watches are made in Switzerland and not New Jersey or anywhere else in the U.S. I guess you could find exceptions but to me, it's like finding a good car mechanic. The odds are against you. Better to just send it off to the factory where I know they will do it right?
Hey, let's take it easy with the New Jersey insults. The state is a center of precision machining and manufacturing with shops employing the latest CNC machining and 3D printing techniques. Check these guys out, for example (Only one of many examples, I have absolutely no affiliation):

The success of the Swiss watch industry, which began with Huguenot farmers looking for a business activity for the winter months, is in large part due to the support the Swiss government has given to its long term development.

Between this thread and the other one he hijacked, I think it was pretty clear he wasn't here to learn anything...he was simply ignoring anything that w=didn't fit his predetermined ideas.

And I don't believe that because he was banned, he can no longer read the forum, so I suspect if he wants to follow up on what was written in this and any other thread, he is free to do so.

Nobody is saying that the term Teutonic is derogatory, that is completely missing the point that @tyrantlizardrex was making. Anyway, I am going to stop trying to explain my perspective on this, since it's clearly being misunderstood by many. I suspect that others get the point.

I sympathise with being misunderstood considering the first half of my response made no mention of Teutonic but instead addressed the comment made by the OP about the generalisation of types of "personalities" and you equating this with some kind of "master race" tendency in the thread which i could not see. Happy to be proved wrong but feels tenuous at best

the second half of my post mentioned teutonic just in case the there was some underlying suggestion that this word added to personalities made it racist.

as said by others I think there may have been some sterotyping going on but no more. my opinion only

1. I thought I was making a joke re the Omega Teutonic.
2. So, am I allowed to say the Swiss and Belgians make better chocolate than, say, The Weehawken Chocolate Company? I love me some Belgian chocolates. I assume it would be across the line to say "the Aryan cocoa processing perfection ist uber alles." But if I substitute "Teutonic" for "Aryan," it seems fairly innocuous. Right? 👍
I don't know about Weehawken, but L'atelier du chocolat recently opened a location in Jersey City. I used to go to Teuscher from time to time, but no longer see the point. I still look to Switzerland for some things, though. Pass the milk.

They make a far better Philly Cheesteak in New Jersey than they do in Switzerland.
Riding the Megabus from Baltimore to NYC provides breathtaking views of the Turnpike at 110mph.
Garden State Parkway- doesn’t get much better then that for a parkway.

New Jersey lends itself well to this kind of praise.

Bought many a fine watch from New Jersey’s favourite Son.
