Let's discuss servicing your vintage Omega in Bienne

I think I see your problem there. I'd guess the members here trying to answer your questions would not consider the local watchmakers they entrust their work to as being randomly chosen.

Not only that but most of the local watchmakers are single proprietors. At the factory, there are many expert watchmakers. If one particular watchmaker can't do the work, someone higher up can. With a local, who can take over if what you need to be done is beyond their skillset?

More importantly, you know why this watch has the wrong hands? It's because my grandmother took it to a local watchmaker many decades ago!

Thanks but mine has no 'de Ville' underneath Seamaster and double batons in the 12, 3, 6 and 9 positions.

This 1964-65 Omega catalog shows the one that I have.

The minute markers should be at the outer edge of the dial, as in the OVD, those catalogs, and all other examples. It's also uncommon to see T SWISS MADE T when the dial has no lume. An in-focus photo will allow the experts to better evaluate the rest of the printing (especially the typeface), but I also suspect that the dial has been re-done. For example, Seamaster seems crooked to me, but I realize the photo is poor. AUTOMATIC also appears to be off-center, extending to the left of OMEGA but not to the right.

Let me start a thread asking for experience and opinions, and then tell everyone who provides info that they are wrong... Is there a 'just shoot me in the head' smilie available somewhere?

There are multiple ways of thinking about this issue on this site, and some very knowledgeable collectors here are not opposed to sending work to Omega. They have their reasons and I don’t disagree with them. I’m not as convinced by your reasoning.

The members here who counsel against doing so have their own hard-won reasons for that. You seem to be discounting their advice because you’re too savvy to meet with the disappointment they’ve encountered, or you’ve spotted something they’ve done wrong. Good luck with your project.

I see you are passionate about sending your watch back to Switzerland- and I think you should do that. It’s your watch and it’s what you feel comfortable with.
Just so you have some info- the dial was refinished, probably when the hands were replaced- this was clearly done by a watchmaker in New Jersey.
As pointed out, the minute track should be on the outside of the hour indices, not the inside (some earlier models from the 50’s had them on the inside like the Constellations. The Seamaster logo looks way too bold- the lettering is typically much finera- then there is the aforementioned “T” but no lume on the dial. The non- Deville marked front loader was typically only 1962- the first year of the front loading case for Omega (although with Omega there can be exceptions), from ‘63 forward the front-loaders were typically marked as DeVille. Here is a crappy iPhone pic of my unmarked DeVille- Deville on the correct factory bracelet- made only for this model year-1962

Nobody is trying to argue or convince you of anything, it’s your watch- do what you want. But when you come to a forum of collectors and start trying to argue a hypothetical case for something that people here have direct experience with -you’re gonna ruffle a few feathers.
I hope your grandmothers watch comes out exactly as you hope- these are fine watches once they are sorted and a pleasure to wear.
Best of luck in your pursuit.

Commercially not interesting for Omega to start such a vintage service...
Selling Euro 50000.00 Lunar meteorite Speedmasters, without pointing out which lunar meteorite was exactly used for the sundial slices, brings more money to the company... After all it's a business not a charity !

When I think about the preciseness of Teutonic personalities working on my watch vs that of someone from New Jersey. Is that even a fair comparison?

Your comment about "personalities" is very thinly veiled racism - which has no place on this forum or anywhere else.

Pack it in.

I honestly had a bit of hope for the OP. I'm absolutely not questioning the way this forum is policed; I just sensed a kind of difficulty in reading the room and picking up social cues from people trying to let him know that he was out of his lane. I did see that he hijacked another thread, and hell, life is too short to deal with obstinate people. There may have been something behind the scenes that warranted not extending any more patience with him, so what do I know.

Why even join a forum if you are not even interested in what people have to say 🤨

I'm against racism in all its forms and I agree that it has no place on a public forum or anywhere else for that matter. But I think calling this racism is a bit ridiculous given that there is no racial difference between the two nations concerned. BTW did you know that more white Americans are of German descent than any other? Let's just call it national stereotyping instead, which is not acceptable to everyone but rather less inflammatory than racism.

I think the OP was more Jerseyphobic than anything- apparently the Swiss wouldn't be caught dead breathing the air in New Jersey....but then again...I don't suggest anyone really inhale deeply in Jersey 😉

I agree 100% and picked up on this same "master race" thread in his posts.

I don't know where you live, but this is wildly incorrect, and the OP was clearly under the impression that people in Switzerland were representative of a particular race, which is really the relevant point.
