One door closes and another door open. That is how my luck changed to today after I failed to acquire a Tudor 7924 "no crown guard". Several hours later, I got a call from my watch agent about a UG Tri-Compax 881101/03 and told him to arrange that I meet the owner immediately who was not inclined to send photos of the watch. We live in the same area and met for dinner.

The owner was a recently retired Chinese gentleman who got the watch as a gift from his father. He used it for several years before he decided to just keep it in the safe. About a month ago he brought the watch out and took it to a watchmaker to have it checked. The watchmaker is known to my watch agent who tipped him about the watch and gave the number of the owner. My watch agent called the owner and he was able to convince him to just sell the watch. Of course the owner was shocked at the value of his watch now after being informed about it and was happy to just cash it in.

He asked for the moon but settled for a far lesser amount so it was a win-win situation for all of us. Happy to share here my latest prized catch. Btw the watch is in very good condition and unmolested.

Very very nice. Great watch agent! I do hope the watchmaker had the owner's permission to contact your agent. No harm no foul I guess as the deal worked out for everyone.

Beautiful !

Each to their own but I could never sell a watch my father had bought me. Especially one like that!

Beautiful watch! For his sake, it's a good thing he didn't sell it 3+ years ago...

Great catch, congrats.

But, you have a watch agent?! Where's the fun in that?!

I wouldn't either but I also understand why the gentleman sold it. He is not in the pink of health and the money will be used
for his medical expenses.

If you mean I hire the services of a watch agent I do not. My watch agent is also a watch dealer and I have bought several watches from him already. We have become good friends and so most of the nice vintage watches that he finds, he gives me the first option. For finding the UG, he charged me 5% of the agreed price.

Congratulations!
Out of curiosity, do you think you payed less than the agent / dealer would've listed the watch for, or more?

He definitely would hv made more had he purchased the watch and sold it on the open market. But we have become very close friends so he does not charge me his normal fee. Likewise, his clients are mostly buyers of modern watches so vintage is not his forte.
