Japan Racing or Apollo 8 - Which to keep?

What a decision... keeping the Japanese racing would satisfy the collectors for rarity. The racing color scheme has grown on me and I’m looking for something in that realm to scratch the itch. Sell the A8. Both will see another bump in price when the 3861 takes over and 1861 is discontinued.

Anyone know about how many Apollo 8’s have been produced to date?

Omega knows, but they aren't telling. But I would guess they make a 1,000 or so pieces a year, it's a niche product at a pretty high price point. You are just starting to see them occasionally in dealer stock.

So it's been on the market for about a year with perhaps 1000 now in customer hands. There are now at least 16 for sale on C24 and 7 JRs. We don't know how long Omega will keep producing them but it seems unlikely they will stop in the very near future given tooling and other costs. Therefore it seems reasonable to guess that within a year there will be a similar number of A8 DSOTMs in the market as Japan Racings and from then time will tell how many more get produced. Perhaps something for OP to consider if he's thinking about selling the A8 now with a possible re-purchase further down the track. I think that's a better approach than selling the JR now to free up cash because it will only get much harder and more costly to buy that back in future.

Yes, I have an Apollo 8 but I agree with your sentiments. The only difference could be if omega go only with the 3861 movement in place of the 1861 What would happen with this movement. Maybe phased out....
