I'd like to tip my hat to the original poster for "had it with Hodinkee", though I'm neither fed up with FedEx, nor ticked off with Timezone.

Nicely played.

Haha...no one ever expects the Spanish Inquisition!

At the risk of further hijacking the thread, I just saw my profile title, "coordinates his cast with his car's paint job." Hadn't thought of that.
Who can I thank for the keen observation? 馃榾

Things like that happen when you give internet superpowers to the class clown.

Take what you like and disregard what you don't agree with. If youre getting mad at them maybe you spend too much time and attention focused on Hodinkee.

Oh, oops. We need special "rhetorical" and "sarcasm" fonts.
Yes! I have been looking out for these for years. but until then we will just have to do with...ellipsis...that imply...just that...but this is not one of those times...馃 Here's a tip, after a rhetorical question use an exclamation point, gotta love Strunk & White!

I didn't think Time Exposure was that seriously intense about it, he was just doing what we all need to do every so often, rail against stuff that gives us the shites from time to time. Anyway imo Hodinkee sets itself up for a bit of a diatribe aimed in there direction every so often as they take themselves waaaayyyy too seriously. Thank God for OF where we can do just that without getting flamed, just the occasional light sunburn. 馃榾

Um...I'm not mad or nuthin'. I find all this quite funny. Maybe 88cut's post was directed at the OP, or "us" in general? Can't say I disagree: take what you like from Hodinkee and leave the rest!
If my typing suggests ANY negative feeling about anything typed here, then I apologize!

Guilty as charged. Quotes appreciated! Takes the edge off the truth. Ok, what was the question?

It was interesting reading Ben Clymers response to recent criticism on the site after readers expressed their outrage at HODINKEE doing a review on a new Ferrari - he came across very well and it very much sounds like they're at a cross roads now with commercialising the site.

Mass generic journalism appeals to a wider audience and earns you more money but at the expense of your loyal watch enthusiasts. Will be watching with interest over the next year to see what path they go down.
I completely get that they're trying to generate more views, thus more revenue, etc...but they really should stick to watches. It is, after all, a watch website. Cross posting from other websites (that focus on cars, and can do them their due justice in videography/photography) like they did with this : https://www.hodinkee.com/blog/mcqueens-ferrari-275gtb-for-sale is one thing, but trying to create your own content? Seems like they're grasping at straws for content or something. Something like covering a vintage ferrari and rolex collection would be a lot more relevant and still attract some of a different crowd as well. Even still, with most high end exotic owners, watches are something that overlaps cars pretty heavily. So, it seems like they really aren't tapping into a different audience as much as they might intend to. Rambling at this point, but just my humble 0.02$.

I think at this point they are trying to go for full lifestyle website. Clothing, accessories and who knows, soon restaurant reviews.

Their website, their business.

Yeah, Ben should have remained pure, poor, and employed grinding it out at a souless bank.

Test driving Ferarris, travelling around the world, building a successful business around his passion...

What the 馃が is he thinking?!! 馃う

Actually hodinkee is how I got started and I met Ben at his #notapplewatch get together in San Francisco the night of Apple Watch release. He does genuinely love watches and was very friendly to a newbie like me who showed up in a party of Rolex and higher end crowd wearing a Hamilton Khaki automatic.

I think hodinkee and watchville is helping attract the next generation of watch fans by offering the information in the format attractive to beginners. Yes he is going to have to branch out and curate the content, but the overall contribution to watch collecting is positive.
