The fact that he/she have had zero transactions in the last year? And zero transactions as seller, ever? Either this is the first item they've ever sold, or their account was hacked. "Transaction outside eBay" suggests the latter.
Totally understand what you mean. Funny thing is that this piece sold the first time and the winning bid was just shy of $1k. The next day I get a message from them on ebay that the item is available again and if I would like to buy it. They said the winning buyer had to back out since they did not have funds. I looked up the email he wanted me to send funds to and it came back with this result but I am not able to see what that thread said. I believe it was deleted.
Also possible they're on the level, but exclusively sell things "off the books" to avoid taxes and fees. Which means you get no protections and no recourse if/when things go south. As Dennis said, "avoid". Unless you feel lucky.
Thanks for the replies! I was planning on avoiding. It seems too good to be true for the price we had agreed upon. I will continue my search. You guys rock. Thanks again.
I'm fairly certain it's legit but it's out of my comfort zone age wise so I would like some assistance.
Hi everyone, I'm totally new to the world of Omega (and watches in general) so I could use your help. I'm buying an Omega watch as a remembrance of my grandfather who passed away 2 weeks ago. He was a huge Omega fan. I've got my eye on a watch that is likely to have been built around his birthyear 1938. Would you mind checking if this watch is a legit Omega? Thanks!
Not an Omega, but 100% fake because of the bezel. The numbers/markers are supposed to be indented slightly and a little grayish from the platinum, not white. Bezel pip also horribly wrong. Many other issues I can see as well.
Hi all, i recently found this watch second hand for a good but not too good to believe price. New in box with papers/tags/stickers. I was planning on taking it to my nearest AD when it arrived. Due to the current situation i decided to check here first before traveling to the store for non essential purposes. The Jeweler listed on the warranty card does appear to be an Omega AD among other high end brands. Thanks in advance for any input, i don't have pictures of the movement and have blocked out the second half of the serial in all photos. I can provide the full serial if needed/appropriate. Cheers
It looks legit and everything seems to match. Not sure what a good deal is, but that's not hard since that's not a popular model and therefore difficult to sell, like the Cellini line of Rolex-- not that it's a bad watch.
Thanks for the quick feedback. Yea it did seem to be a less popular/slower moving model. I had been keeping an eye on some grey market stores for a couple weeks now with prices ranging from 2200-2800. I made an offer of 1800 for this elsewhere which was accepted so i'm happy to save money + have an almost full Omega warranty. Thanks again cheers
Hi everybody, First post here. You guys are doing an amazing job in both teaching people generally about watches and Omegas and also saving a lot of people the hurt of getting scammed. I have done quite an extensive research already, ready a whole bunch of topics on this forum, so my judgment is (slightly) better now. And now I think the two watches below could be real Omegas but are re-dialed and refurbish/parts are replaced. Could you confirm? And also perhaps share how you reach that conclusion to help me get a better sense of what to look at? These are all range between USD 500-600. If I am mistaken for some reason, please let me know of course!! First one: seller claims this is from the 50s. Cal. 258 was in production in the 50s but the serial no. says this if form the 60s. For this second one, the seller says it's from the 60s and Reference 2757 / 85 C. Serial number says its from much earlier. Bonus: I don't see anything to think this is re-dialed, although I dont have a lot of pictures. The reason I am asking, I've never seen this exact dial on a Constellation. What do you all think?
You are correct, the first two watches have refinished dials, they also have cases which are very heavily polished and should not even be considered for purchase regardless of price. The Constellation is a reference 167.015 which has a dial unique to the reference. These are also unique because of their monocoque construction, with the movement coming out from the from side. The date version is 168.015.
Just recently inherited this watch from my grandfather who passed away. He had worn this watch for years and always assumed it was real. I'm planning on cleaning it up and getting it serviced regardless (sentimental value) but was wondering if anyone with better knowledge of this type of constellation could tell me what they think.
