No expert here, but is the "Seamaster" in red correct? Also, both of my Seamasters had the waves surrounding the seahorse on the case back.
Some folks better informed than I will chime in soon.

Hi Tony, thanks a lot, from what I learned over the past few weeks, the red seamaster and the different case back are expected for the 2221.80 generation. Maybe your seamasters are 2541.80 ?

Both of mine were the mid-size models. The first was a 2062.50 quartz, and my present one is the 2551.80 mechanical. On further research online, it does appear that the "Seamaster" did come in red on some models...I stand corrected!

I bought a Seamaster Pro ref 2531.80 (circa 1999) and I wanted to confirm that it is authentic. everything about the watch seems spot on to me except for one thing. All the common mistakes on replicas are good on this watch. The lume pip is in the right spot, the helium valve is good, etc. It even has a serial number and the original seller gave pictures of the movement (but these could always be faked.) The one thing that doesn't seem quite right to me if the dial. The lume just seems a little messy... Maybe this is a common thing with this watch but I'm not an expert. Here are some pics. Thank you in advance everyone!

This is tritium dial, does it still glow anyhow?
Possible that hands been replaced by superluminova hands but at the end of the day the watch looks all original.

Spot on. The hands were replaced and the dial is tritium. It still glows but not very bright. I trust the seller and I believe the watch is real but I just wanted some second opinions 😀 Thanks for looking!

But maybe not a 1999, as I think 1997/1998 were the last Tritium years - my son and I have 1998's with luminova, but maybe a few tritium dials snuck through then. Looks genuine.

Nearly half of what you would expect to pay?
Need to contact seller directly on suspicious looking email account.
Hmmmm, buyer beware I think!

Would agree. Watch doesn't look particularly suspicious but ad is. Contact outside ebay??

Instead of buyer beware, I think I'd suggest buyer be cautious. eBay has different rules for different countries, so it's possible that in the UK you can't have a classified listing with the ability to make offers. So the seller is saying (I presume) email me and make an offer, if I like it, I'll add a buy it now price to the listing and off we go. Nothing wrong with that, I've done it (as a seller).

But if they want you pay outside of eBay and/or wire money directly, that's when it's time to take a pause.

Sometimes too good to be true is actually just a good deal that you fell into.

Ok, fair enough, but then why not just list it normally with a “Make an Offer option” from the outset? Plus the buyer requests offers through a 3rd party email account as listed in the description section, when they could be contacted through EBay anyway?
Also, that seller has another watch for sale, but is requesting offers through a different email account?
Seems a little suspicious.

Ebay is fairly clear...
Buyers and sellers can’t:
  • Engage in any action with a user on the site designed to complete or facilitate a transaction outside of eBay
  • Share or request direct contact information prior to completing a sale
    • Exception: Sellers may opt to provide their phone number as part of the Ask a Seller a Question (ASQ) function to facilitate a sale on eBay
The facility to make contact between buyer & seller is provided as a function of the auction platform. Making contact outside that makes no sense unless it would be for nefarious reasons (in my opinion)

Hoping to get your thoughts on this one. I can't see any problems, but it wouldn't be the first time I've missed something! Many thanks!

Can you pay a local AD to inspect a new watch and confirm whether or not it is real?

Any idea roughly what something like this would cost?

Depends on the AD and the cost varies. There's also 2 ghetto ways to get a free inspection-- (1) post clear pictures here and we'll see what we can do, and (2) send the watch to Omega/Swatch (might have to pay for shipping if you don't do it through an AD) pretending to get a service quote, then decline. If they send you a quote, it's real.
