Well that smells fishy but I don't know. It seems too good to be true. What most puzzles me is he has a friend who's a watchmaker but who wouldn't have helped him determine the watch problem and value.
You have to analyse the guy on the phone. I had a to good to be true deal once and it appeared that in fact the guy was just not really clever and very lazy.
Can you pay by paypal ? Would you see the watch before buying ?

No. Just want to be sure. eBay purchase.

 

You are good. You can always take it to an Omega watchmaker to open the case (I always do with all second hand purchases) that would give you the definitive answer you are looking for.
