Hello all!

I’ve been an Omega fan for a while now, and upon recently returning from a deployment I decided to pull the trigger and get an 08-388 series Seamaster on (yup, you guessed it) ebay. This was sold with the authenticity guarantee, but the seller sent it directly to me and as far as I can tell it was never at an authenticator. That raised a red flag, so here I am asking for some expert advice. The auction in question: https://www.ebay.com/itm/154947950699

A few things I have noticed upon inspection:

+ The helium valve seems to be at the correct position to me, and I can’t find anything obviously misspelled. All the lettering looks neat and tidy.

- When I shine a bright light on it for a minute or so, only the hands seem to glow in the dark. I’m not sure if the other markings are supposed to have lume, but it looks as if they are.

- The rotating bezel doesn’t seem to quite line up perfectly when at the 12 o’clock position.

- Last but not least, I can’t find a serial number on it. I know that on some older models it’s not as easy to find, but I’m not sure where it’s supposed to be located on an 08-388 and in combination with the other observations, I’m seriously doubting the authenticity of this watch. What do you all think?

I can provide more/better pictures if needed, also.

Glad it raised a red flag for you. It looks very fake. Take it up with eBay

It's a DHgate shitbox mate. In fact, it's worse.

20 bucks off a street vendor blanket is more like it. Let us know what EBAY does. Before you try this again. Do a little exploring here, ask questions. Hopefully you get what we call your “noob tax” back. It happens early in the game. Many of us have been there, myself included.

This is from Craigslist so the photos aren’t great or many. What are your thoughts on this Seamaster 300?

Do you mind sharing what makes you think this is a fake?
I don't know if it's fake or genuine, the photos are too bad to make a definite assessment.

For that reason, I'd pass. You could chance it though if you have a return option.

I see a lot of info about Omega apparently not being willing to service such watches? Is this accurate?
Could be, but irrelevant.
If you’re happy with the watch and plan to keep it for the long haul, there are plenty of watchmakers that will service it the three times you’ll need to in your lifetime.
Wear it and enjoy

As the OP hasn't been seen for six years I doubt that he's concerned about it any more.

They are still busy recounting their epic tale of finding their lost Seamaster out at sea 😗

Saw this omega seamaster diver 300 for sale. I do not know the model number. I can't find another diver in this age range (I think it is 99 ish) that says just automatic instead of it being a professional or that bracelet. Bezel or insert is obviously trash. Any thoughts on authenticity? it is being displayed in an omega box with cal 1424 1438 1538.
Oh, and unsigned crown.

Everything is completely wrong. Omega never made this watch, although I guess it's supposed to looks like a SMP 300.

The crystal caseback is wrong, and the movement you can see through it is cheaply made.

If you see enough quality watches (real or in pics), you will easily spot fakes like this.
