Is this the new Speedmaster?

I think I'll keep changing my mind between the current version and next year's version until the decision is made for me by Omega and the current version being no longer available.

I'd love to see a macro comparison of the 3861 to the 1861, with a watchmaker taking the two apart. I know many parts are changed but I don't know how much of that is cosmetic, how much is incremental improvement, and how much is completely new. I guess it is too new for anybody to have had the chance to do that yet? I know some of the new elements are obvious.

We just need one Tim Mosso comparison video soon, to quench our thirst 馃榿

My mind is set, Snoopy is out of the running but the 3861 Sapphire is definitely on the radar for 2021, Covid permitting.

A nice partner to my 1861 Hesalite

Does no one have any opinion on the sunken markers? It's the biggest change to any speedmaster ever from what I can see.

I noticed that earlier, in some photos. I'm holding judgement until I see it in the flesh, but initially, it seems like a fussy detail with all that's already on the dial. The other details seem to add a a nice level of refinement though.

(edit) : needed to educate myself with the 321 legacy. Seems to be a well done update / hybrid with nicely executed details.

To take both movements apart and to show us the differences, yes, it is still too early.

With all that reasoning and questioning, one hardly gets anywhere. ... 馃榾

The Sedna on strap will definitely get my attention.
Is the speedmaster heading to follow the submariner path?

Not sure what that means, but the Speedmaster has had gold models in the catalog on and off essentially since the first limited run after the moon landing

I find it odd that Omega would update the speedmaster to bring up to date with the requirements of a modern watch. - new movement, new bracelet, new dial, then put an aluminium bezel on it. I find it puzzling. If they had put a ceramic bezel with a micro adjustment on the bracelet omega would have hit it out park. Sadly it falls a little short me.

I still think they should have done that with the sapphire model, hopefully in the future they will but from all reports its a pretty healthy price increase for some visual and the movement change.

I have heard current speedmasters are getting harder to get new, so I am glad I got one when I did.

A Sedna version may explain why the hesalite or sappire designs leaked don't have a ceramic bezel 馃槜

A Sedna version may also explain why I just drooled on my screen.

Very possibly. Although I wonder if the ceramic bezel, and perhaps applied indices, will be reserved for LEs. Can't remember if the Sedna FOIS got the ceramic bezel, or if that was the CK LEs only.

It does have a brown ceramic bezel ring according to omega website.

Is the speedmaster really omega's flagship watch?

have fun
kfw

I went inside a big Omega service center once and on the walls they had about 4 huge framed posters of Speedmasters, 3 of Planet Oceans and 1 of a Seamaster. I'm sure historically the Speedmaster is the most important for them but sales wise they probably sell Planet Oceans the most - more recently in the last couple of years they probably sell Seamasters the most with all its new upgrades and how it's seen as a modern Submariner competitor.

The 1861 has had all its gremlins worked out over the years.

The 3861 is having all its gremlins found at the moment. (Some wheels rubbing and wearing is one such gremlin)
