Is this right decision for husbands 60th, 1961 Seamaster?

I know things have moved on from when I started a few years ago but unattractive watches at high prices seem to be everywhere. I think if a watch is attractive, you stand a good chance of getting a higher price but some with damaged dials (not what I would call patina) seem to be listed at prices far higher than you'd expect. I'm sure I once saw a watch on this forum that had been for sale for more than a year so, we are not exempt😁. Of course, anyone can list at any price and that's up to them.

I don't think he's been here for a while but @Tom Dick used to occasionally move lovely watches on as he likes to change them. He's in UK and is a nice guy. We'll see if he notices this call-out.

If you get a watch that needs a service, you have virtually no chance of getting it serviced over the next 5 or 6 weeks. A point to bear in mind.

I sold one of these a few years ago for about half this price but, at first glance, this might be suitable:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Omega-Seamaster-Ref-166010-Cal-562-Automatic-Mens-Watch/124584442230?

But, check it all over first and get other opinions as I am working so have just spent a few minutes looking. He doesn't seem to be able to open it and the movement pics are not his. If you remove the BOR bracelet, you could probably recoup £100 on that. Not sure if someone has already pointed this one out above.

For comparison, here is the one that I sold - at first glance, the fonts look good on the eBay one:

Good luck, Chris

So this should be the same watch... Look at the hands! What's going on here! In my opinion the pic from Etsy picture is manipulated. I see no signs of corrosion on the second hand.

Comparison, original pictures.

Enhanced picture (Etsy)

So what weird stuff or planet are you on....A lot of people here have a C-case or two.
A lot of people here. I submit most not-us would look at and wonder what pet rock that was found under.

It took me about 15 minutes with the eBay picture and Photoshop to attempt the Etsy style. Mind you I don't do image manipulation very often so the result is not as good as it could be. Also, I'm sure there are tricks to get better results but it gives an idea of what image manipulation can do.

The significant question is, does Etsy manipulates the pictures or the seller? This is fraudulent behaviour.

The hands are not the same hands. Look at the length of the black inlays, e.g. in the hour hand.

I can see that. So the seller has changed the hands to deteriorated ones ,when selling the watch on e-bay. And doesn't the inlay looks to thick, and artificial? In my opinion something is wrong here.

I wonder if these are different watches and the seller has mixed up movement and case back pictures?

Any other ideas for @VickyG - some watches for consideration? I thought the one I posted above wasn't too bad but, I'm on my phone and it's cheap/old!

Cheers, Chris

I am also liking the 166.010 Seamaster suggestion... buy it without the bracelet and then buy a new 3010/511 bracelet directly from Omega.

That’s a good shout Chris and would explain a lot.

I agree this 166.010 looks nice and original. Slightly over priced but maybe there’s some haggle room.

I have this on my watch list (no intention of buying just being nosey) which looks to be a nice watch. Slightly larger at 37mm and from later in the 60’s. He’s a dealer I follow who does seem to sell some nice stuff. It’s an open auction with 4 days to go.

Hi Chris, I wondered that too, the serial numbers (albeit almost similar aside the end digit) might just be genuine & he holds 2 different watches. Playing devils advocate the image of the back case could be a genuine mix up. But if this is your business you should be able to post the right pictures with the right watch as these are what people are buying from, and most buyers can’t open the watch up. I don’t really care now, I have good money to spend and I’m afraid he won’t be getting it. I’m sure he has many other clients happy to buy from him & happy with his service, I just won’t be one of them!

yes I looked at, the seller only has 1 eBay feedback rating in the past 12 months. I use eBay an awful lot so that would cause me concern. I also asked to see copy of the documents the seller said he has but haven’t heard back as yet At this rate that £20 Casio in Argos is looking good!!

@Noddyman , when you say ‘I agree this 166.010 looks nice and original. Slightly over priced but maybe there’s some haggle room’ - are you referring to this one in the picture.

Will look at that other recommend, thank you

Go for it! Everyone with a nice watch needs a beater for drain clearing, cat bathing, etc.

@VickyG yes the one ChrisN links to.
If you had time on your side and lots of patience you could possibly find this watch for £600-£700. So with a bit of haggling you might get somewhere close.

I’m tenacious if that helps I know exactly where that dealer is in Glasgow selling the eBay jumbo seamaster (of all places in the UK it’s where our son lives!). I love that brush finish, watching that one, bigger face but 19mm lugs meaning it could take the Nato strap we want to put on it!

Yes, I like the one from @Noddyman as well.

The one I linked to, I see what you mean about the 1 feedback. Ask for proof of life but, in a subtle way... Ask for a "picture with the hands at 9:20 so you can see all the text and date window clearly". To be fair, with eBay, if nothing turns up (or a house brick) they seem to just refund your money - or so I've heard. I had one bad experience a year or two ago and they instantly refunded my money as the guy had closed his account so I couldn't return it - very odd.

Good luck and if you need it opening for verification, let me know.

Regards, Chris

thank you Chris, waiting for him to reply with image of the paperwork he mentions in the listing & will then ask the question you suggest at 9.20. I am very familiar with eBay, plenty of buying protection, but still with a low feedback seller you have to be careful.

I really do like that bigger jumbo seamaster @Noddyman suggested & pretty sure my husband would love that dial & finish. It’s a contender so contacted the seller with a couple of questions, he says message to ask any so I have. Don't think that extra 3mm case size is making it too much bigger on the wrist (still very much smaller than modern watches) & issue with Nato strap lug width would be resolved.
