Curious that there is no Omega logo on the crystal in the Etsy picture.

I find the logo on the crystal is very difficult to capture, and to get everything else properly in focus and exposure is something I have never managed.

Could just be my bad photography skills?

I think it takes the right equipment and skill. I believe I have the former, but not much of the latter. I captured the logo in the crystal and have most of the rest in focus. I took the picture with a new Olympus mirrorless camera and an adapted vintage macro lens.

Still here, still looking! yes the vintage 50’s sold but not to me. Thank you I have seen this, it’s the cosmic seamaster but I think hubby will like the shape - will get for less than £800 - anybody have any initial thoughts remembering we aren’t collectors just ordinary folk!? Importing a watch from overseas to the UK adds on 20% so been trying to keep search to UK (or at a push Europe)

And this from a respected dealer with warranty again under £800. Details /images below:

“As stated this has come in and was serviced by a watchmaker 2 years ago, everything adds up to that but as always this will be serviced by our watchmaker so we know its previous work and can back it with out 12-Month Warranty. Condition is fantastic as you can see, we wouldn't recommend a polish as it's very nice.
Circa. 1966 Omega Seamaster Automatic - Reference 166.002 - Serial number is 23,082,430 - Automatic Omega Cal. 562 in fantastic original condition”

The Cosmics are often overlooked for their slightly unusual shape and for being an entry level model but that particular variant of Cosmic with the Calibre 565 movement is a very solid watch and the case on these is much better than the earlier models at keeping moisture out (still not water resistant really but definitely more humidity and splash proof).

If the seller is accurate in what he says about it being serviced in early 2020 (I’d ask for an invoice as proof) the watch coupled with bracelet and box isn’t cheap but could be a good buy and very wearable.

I like this watch. The 166.002 is one of my favorite case shapes from this era, it has a thickness and heft that wears much more modern than most vintage pieces. This one looks to have a full factory service (the parts baggie) plus they plan to give it another go-over and offer a warranty....and they are UK, and the price is pretty good for a full factory serviced watch.

I think I’d shake the piggy bank for that.

You could wait for a cheaper one but it won’t be that much cheaper when you factor in a proper service which this looks to have had, and as you’re not planning to waste your life looking at watch ads like the rest of us here it seems like a good option.

^^this watch checks all the boxes, 60’s, Seamaster, chunky, clean, serviced, warranty, reputable dealer (although I don’t know who) in the UK- go get it!
Take the saving you were going to spend and splurge on a real Crocodile strap.

You absolute lovely posters, I really really appreciate this & if I don’t decide soon it’ll be his 70th!! I am going to take the dog for for a long walk now & make my decision. I could get this watch with the original rice bracelet but not sure if it’s worth paying the extra for ( not sure what that would be yet?

Beads of rice bracelets are abundant for these, should be #70 Endlinks, and they typically cost around $250 with endlinks (varies depending on condition).

@VickyG Let us know your decision, from the images it looks a nice honest piece and as many have said, it's had all the work done so your husband can just strap it on and enjoy.

I've have an early 70s Constellation circa. my birth year which I purchased on a strap. 18 months latter I now have two bracelets to go with it as well... It's nice to swap these around occasionally as it changes the look and feel, like having a new watch again.

If you do go for it and you have the chance of getting the correct beads of rice bracelet at a good price, I'd go for it.

It’s between this and the eBay one (but no one has commented on that one as yet.

(The service papers relating to the service on this in 2020 aren’t available but seller confirms all in working order) Totally different watch design but our younger sons like this design over the 166.002).

I'd take the one with a service and warranty. Unless you have the proof of service for the Cosmic, then you don't know if it was done well. You don't want an issue with a watch and then spend £300 having to service it plus, it'll be away or not usable for a few months.

Nice Omega leather strap and buckle for the 166.002 and it will make a stunning present.

Good luck, Chris

I would go with the 166.002 over the cushion-case Cosmic.

Dsio commented on the ebay watch (Cosmic). The 166.002 is more sought after by collectors and I would place a higher value on it. However, you have to follow your heart.
