I’d be most grateful for someone to look at this ebay listing and tell me what you think of the dial. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-mens-Longines-classic-manual-wind-34mm-with-date-steel-case-almost-mint-/304185403922?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m2548.l6249&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0
Looks good to me. Certainly not “almost mint” as the seller says, but original nevertheless. I have the same dial in one of mine and here’s a pic for comparison. Edited to add: same reference as mine and I bought it here on OF. Here’s the sale ad with many more pics: https://omegaforums.net/threads/nice-1966-longines-dress-watch-ref-7629-in-stainless-steel.129563/
It looks nice, and you would be hard pressed to find a better watch for the price. If you decide to pass on it, let us know. It would be a good recommendation for the Bargain thread.
It’s extremely close to what I have been hunting for to replace the one lost from my dead father so my aim is to go ahead!
I offered $210. They had previously sent me an offer at $215. Hopefully can’t go wrong at that price! @mrbreen yours looks more sunburst though?
The pics of your watch look a bit overexposed (especially on the mobile eBay site), but I’m quite confident it’s the same sunburst dial as my watch. And they match right down to the markers and the placement of the crosshairs precisely. I think you’ll be pleased when you see it in person. Congrats and do update this thread with pictures once you receive it!
Congratulations! It is a neat watch and it is always sweeter when you get it at a nice price too. Double joy
Glad to hear! It’s the exact same reference, so yes, same size as mine (34mm). I do have smaller wrists FYI.
Could you show me the winder on yours? And does mine look right? For context, I went to play with it today, and changed the date, and the winder promptly came off in my hand! I got it back in again but wonder it this means the winder is a replacement, and/or if I need to get it a service? Photos attached
Is the little tube the crown goes into still attached or did that screw out when you went to set it? If it screwed back on, then it should just need to be tightened back up again when you have it serviced (the stem needs to be held in place out of the watch, a lite loc-tite on the threads and screw back on snugly). I just got a nice Bulova that did exactly the same thing, keeps perfect time, but I can only set it backwards as the crown will unscrew the other direction. I wore it for a few days for fun (couldn’t set the date of course) and off to the watchmaker it will go shortly.
Tube may still be attached to the crown (that gasket in the crown can get very sticky) and you unscrewed the crown tube. Either way, your watchmaker should be able to get it sorted out for you.
…and this can be part of the joy and pain with vintage watches, lots of little issues (usually from age, neglect or abuse) - but once you get them sorted out, they are a wonderful.
