Hi guys,

I’m still on my quest to find my first classic omega, and found one that seems unique and beautiful - I’m just not sure if it’s real/a reasonable value

it’s a cal 550 14k gold seamaster with a ribbon dial, unknown service history and everything (minus the strap) is supposedly all original.

Is this watch all original/untouched and what do you think something like this should sell for?

Thanks in advance

Welcome!

It's better to save the individual images and post them directly on OF, than post a link; as images hosted on other sites don't always stick around long after the sellers (or others) find them useful.

Thanks, as a noob here your advice is greatly appreciated! I just edited my original post and uploaded some of the pics directly.

Great!

I'm a noob (slightly less new) too, and will edit my own post to delete some of the pics I just posted.

It is legit, it all appears original, the date on the reverse fits and it is evidently a Jumbo size. If you don't mind Burt and Wilma on the back, it looks pretty good.

The watch looks nice. All prices in a range of US $500-700 are fair IMO.

Why is it a jumbo size? It's 34mm right?

And $ 500/700 for a 14k SM with a special dial? In Europe that would be lowballing.

Did you check at which price these sell with inscription on the case, usually?

I might be mistaken but it looks to me as if the movement is sitting in a wider case.

It is indeed a 34mm. In your opinion, does it seem like a non-original movement?

What price range do you think would be offering a fair value? (Keeping in mind that the service history is unknown)

Although it detracts from the vintage value, I find the inscription kind of cute and nostalgic 😜

I dont have to. I've sold so many seamasters to know what something is worth. Some buyers, like me, find a inscription appealing. It gives extra context to a historical piece.

I would'nt argue that this would fetch your price estimation if you throw it on ebay with these pictures. But with good pictures, the right description and the right platform it would get more. Especially in Europe.

Yes. My price estimation is very different from what I would offer for a watch like this. I would offer max EUR 450/500 max. You need to keep in mind the costs of a service.

Inscriptions always make me sad because either there is no family to appreciate it or the family just didn't give a shit.

So I wonder what was wrong with my estimate?

Apparently, you haven't sold so many seamasters to know what something is worth.
