After buying and wearing my 105.012 I decided my bi-metal Daytona was just too 'bling'. I have sold it just as I did with my Datejust. For the same reason I have not considered a Breitling.
It is just a matter of how your tastes can change, I suppose.

This is so true taste can change and go in cycles as well.

Surprising to me. I'm not a fan of day-dates though.

I like vintage Rolexes. I think Rolex peaked 1960-70. I have no interest in their modern offerings. Unexciting.
I've always wanted a day-date... Too late now!

Well. I just thoroughly enjoyed this thread from start to finish.

There are really only 2 Rolexes I have ever found interesting. One I know I will never be able to own, the 6241 Cosmograph. The modern Daytona is an abomination I think. The other Rolex I like is the the no date Submariner. I am getting a 14060M next week, in fact. I've wanted one for years. And I prefer it to the newer SubC which I think has gone too far away from what made the Sub such a classic.

Both Omega and Rolex are great brands for different reasons. Both however have made some hideous design decisions, too.

Just my $0.02.

Apples and Oranges.

Rolex for classic design and stable price (my Datejust & Submariner bought decades ago still maintain about the same or higher selling price than when bought as new watches. My older hand-wound Oyster, however, commands a much higher price--but that's a whole 'nother story).

Omegas on the other hand are geared towards newer buyers (e.g. new "Speedmaster" models are made [limited, numbered, special editions etc.] about every year (My brand spanking new Speedmaster can be bought today on the used market at 50% of what it's worth). Bought my "numbered edition" Speedmaster for the looks and functionality of the watch and do not intend to sell it (almost did when Omega placed the incorrect date wheel, which they fixed when they realized it had the wrong date wheel).

I love both brands and do not bore me at all.

I think the fact that Rolex is boring to some is a good thing. It's like a Silver car. I owned various colored cars in life and always got bored with color, but when car was silver I never cared. It was good boring type.

The problem with Rolex is it does seem to attract a fair amount of wierdos who will post pics of thier platonas next to their gucci loafers, gucci belts, LV travel bags, Chanel hats and god know what else, hairy hand hanging out of a porsche on a track day. THat is annoying to quite a few people with good taste (in western sense I suppose, as tastes differ a lot, and Im western so suppose this is my bias). Take that aside, and you got your Sub no date wearing or GMT Pepsi on a Jubilee guy who had that same watch for decades, took it though all sorts of stories and treats it as a tool watch. That aspect is admirable and its dependable quality is endearing to many brand fans. but you cant help escape the situation it attracts people with more money than taste and with very low self esteem, needing to flash their wealth in sign of approval.

Omega to me has been a Tag Hauer type brand I didnt really care for it. The moonwatch changed it a bit and the new SM 300 master co axial (the retro one, not the james bond 90s diver) had changed it a lot more. I love those. I think if Omega took those two models and built everythign around them, cherish that heritage, they would have really done well for resale value etc. But as long as they make 300 special editions they are diluting. Many special editions are not special. It becomes like they are selling a lot of customized models. Some of questionable looks. Snoopy is cool but some are very lame.

I have the ND Sub, you will love it. I have the newer one though and disagree a bit. It pops on bracelet just like the original did. I like it more to the 14060, but all have their place in the collection.

I love vintage Rolex - but the problem I see is that the valuations make most of the rare models totally unaffordable (for me) and the market is a minefield. Fortunately, we have great forums to do the research ahead of time, but there can be a lot of heartbreak in the process. Still, I love mine and there are some I would love to own....

I don't know guys, you could say the PCLs on modern Omegas are fairly "blingy" themselves.

I find it boring to the extent that everyone I know has one, but I do like how their limited edition watches require months of waiting in ADs to obtain, that part quite intrigues me

There seems to be a LOT of interest in a thread entitled "Is Rolex Boring Anybody Else!" I would think had the thread been pertaining to a watch brand that was generally considered boring, it would have gone nowhere! I haven't bothered to review all 190+ posts to try to see if there is a consensus. But there is indeed a level of interest, yea or nay!
