I feel like we all knew this was coming, but didn’t know when... Now it’s official. In the grand scheme of things, this is a good move because this will force companies to have a more modern take on watch releases since the huge spike of social media the last 5-6 years.

I like it.

It emphasis that watchworld along with other sectors of economy is restructuring. Post Covid-19 world would be very different than what we've known so far.

I was expecting Baselworld to die due to the abysmal Management of the MCH Group. The News just came earlier as expected. For me it's a case often seen in Switzerland when the State or the Cantons have a large interest in a Company.
MCH Group has as Shareholder: Basel-Stadt, Basel-Landschaft, Zürich as City and Canton. They own together 49% of the shares. When they have to adapt to changes, they show the ability of a 300 meter Cargoship with a Drunk and Blind Captain.
In the past Baselworld and their Management was often blamed for bad user experiences, now it will be interesting to see how the Swiss Watchindustry can adapt.

I do not expect any change, tbh personally never been on Baselworld nor SIHH, online announcements and social media were always the primary channels for me.

Long overdue. In my view it died a long time ago, when companies started releasing all the details of their new watches well in advance of the show's opening. There was a time when everything was kept very quiet, media embargoes were in place, etc., and it generated real excitement. Over the last number of years, it's been a non-event in my eyes...

Don’t think this will make a huge difference to all of us at home anyways. The news will reach us one way or another anyways. And probably through social media just as it have been the last couple of years.

Was it not very expensive to also get in for the general public?

May be it was long coming... nevertheless, I can’t help but shake my head at some of the management missteps (blunders!) made by MCH Group. The level of arrogance at its customers seems mind blowing, no?
May be we don’t know all the details.

70 CHF or so, no?
And you could not even touch the watches!! Just window shopping. It was clearly geared towards professionals, AD, retailers and journalists.

As I understood it, the 2020 Baselworld was supposed to take the format of Watches & Wonders that was held in Miami in 2018 and 2019.

Of course, world events made holding that exhibition impossible this year. There is a Miami show scheduled for 2021.

However, I put the odds that this show will actually be held at well below 50%.

…and here is MCH Group’s response. What a mess! 🤦
Yes, very smart to say that long time customers are lying and MCH did everything right. I don't read a single word of self reflection in their statement. They really learned nothing.🤦
