Input on buying a Seamaster 2264.50

Hi there!

After really enjoying my new Speedmaster I am looking into extending my Omega collection. The obvious model of choice is the Seamaster. I do not mind a quartz, especially because I think it’ll replace my Hamilton Khaki as a daily beater.
I was offered this 2264.50.00 from 2002 for 1.450€ and it comes with box and papers. Battery replaced incl pressure test in October 2019.
so far I have not found a better offer but you guys obviously have more experience. You think it’s a good deal or should I wait a little longer?
Pictures are not great, watch has obviously been worn but looks like not too much polishing has been done.

If you like the watch and want to wear it, why worry about what others think? If you've looked at every current listing of the 2264.50 and the price is in the middle of the pack or towards the lower end, it's market. You can always make a lower offer and see if they accept it.

Personally, when I pay a premium for a "luxury" watch, I want an automatic movement for the engineering marvel and the lack of a battery or electronics. When I acquired my first mechanical watch, having something in my life that was in no way electronic was a large part of the appeal. That's me, I don't judge anyone for desiring the best possible quartz movement in a well engineered case.

It's a great looking watch. My first automatic is it's cousin, I suppose? The 2534.50 GMT 50th Anniversary.

thanks for your reply. I don’t really care about what others think, really, but I just not suuper knowledgeable and wanted to make sure I am not missing something here.
Fair point about mechanical vs quarrt watches. I personally have owned and worn both and find pros in cons in each.

I’ve recently bought this one and it keeps perfect time, is automatic but on a rubber strap rather than bracelet.

That was (and still is) my first Omega! I bought it new, it's been very faithful, and I'm wearing it today. 😀. Congratulations!

I’ve been after one for ages but wanted one with rubber strap that had not been sized and eventually found this in a shop in Italy in mint condition and with box and papers

I fell in lust with it when it was released, and bought it with the non-diver hidden clasp they had the first year. Wore it with the bracelet for 21 years before just recently purchasing a RubberB strap (meant for the Explorer II 40mm) that fits it like it was made for it.

You'll love the watch. My only advice is to remember to have it serviced, and look up (it's on various forums) the issue with the 1128 movement and the hour hand. You should just plan on asking them to replace that wheel every service, or you'll end up going in between services to have it done. Just FYI.

I phoned up the omega boutique to ask about what other rubber straps would fit this watch but they were not very helpful. There is some amazing rubber straps today and the original looks omega one is not my favourite. I’ve a rubber strap on a tag heuer aqua racer and it’s the best rubber strap I’ve ever had. I will look at the one on the explorer as it looks good with the red in it

RubberB has several options. I think there are a couple of other manufacturers of aftermarket Rolex Explorer II straps, and if this one fits, I expect the others probably do as well. It fits like it was made for it. No play or slop.

I posted this on another thread, you might check out these alternatives.

See if they'll order you the strap that came on the 2254.50.... 98000037. You will also have to buy the 18mm clasp, 94521883 (polished) or 94521893 (satin).

This strap is allegedly not waterproof!

Another to consider is 98000085, which uses a regular buckle, also sold separately.
