Not the greatest quality photos in the world, but I've just secured this early Seamaster Calendar at what I think is a fine price for what it is. Black dial, quadrant Arabic markers, cross-hairs, and it's got textured guilloche! I think that beats my black-date-black-dial Connie in levels of coolness and degrees of separation from the typical flat silver dial. Not sure if it's RGP or gold capped, but I'm not fussy either way; it is what it is. The crown may need to be replaced if it has no logo but a quick search shows they're readily available. The band is going ASAP.

While I wait for the courier, anyone else with a similar watch want to share photos? I need strap ideas!

Mine with square dial say Hi

That's beautiful! I'm thinking I might go with something like this strap, to match the dial texture. Maybe a bit over-the-top, but I have one which isn't being used so we'll see how it looks.

Black gator. I think you need a slotted crown.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll see what I can find in gator or crocodile; I've got very acidic skin and I break down leather straps in under a year so I usually stick to silicone or silicone backed leather, if not a bracelet. I've been on the hunt for a clover style crown since I pulled the trigger earlier. I'll see what's actually on it when it is delivered, if it's got the Omega symbol and does the job I might not rush into changing it too soon.

That said, you can use all sorts of vintage gold bracelets. I can help you find some.

Thanks for the offer, I think I'll keep it on a strap. Gold on gold is a little blingy for my taste. That Hirsch option is fantastic!

My father got one of those black dialed Seamaster calendars in 1961 and still has it. He always wore it on a thin (unpadded) black calf strap.

Sure but don't discount black, either.

Black is so... Black......it goes with all.....therefore not special, especially with a black dial, too.... IMHO

This remarkable specimen warrants a special strap. Burgundy will make it POP. Perfect with the case color, too.

But black would make it a very dressy, understated watch.

I have a Horween cordovan strap in navy which I purchased to match a pair of boots but I've never actually used it; I'll definitely try that one, too. I Thanks for all the great suggestions, keep 'em coming!

Post those pix when you can with navy.

I placed my last custom Shell strap #8 on my black Connie and haven’t changed since. It just makes the head the focal point.

a member here made them about 5-6 years ago.

What a beauty! Color #8 is such a unique shade, it's got a bit of everything in it. It's like they somehow mix oxblood, brown, navy, and black, and make it not look awful. I'll definitely post a photo, or perhaps a poll, with the strap options when it comes. I just received notice that it's been posted. It's Friday here so I'm expecting it by Monday or Tuesday.

YES

Google Horween Shell Cordovan #8 shoes/boots on why it was THE top choice in style, at least in the US for gentlemen. One reason was what you stated, versatility. The other, Shell just doesn't wear out, it is not leather, but a sheath of fascia on the rumps of horses.

The #8 was not the only shade, but the top seller, then and now. (But today, it tends to appear a bit too brown than I like, hence, vintage are the collectible ones)

Vintage Shell #8 shoes/boots are very collectible because the color deepens over time.
