Hey, this is not another Speedmaster thread, imagine that! I was missing a 50s Constellation and I believe I found a nice one. Thanks to everything I learned here and on Desmond’s blog I was able to pounce when I saw this one, knowing that it is a nice one and with enough confidence to believe it’s good and correct, but any feedback is appreciated. The dial could be called “tropical” and I like the rough matte effect in real life better than how it comes off in pictures. Unfortunately it’s raining here today so the light is bad, but I managed to take a couple of pictures to show it off. I like when I can put together different traits in one watch, so I need to buy fewer of them to experience the whole range so this is my first 50s constellation, first “tropical” dial, black constellation, dauphine hands, cal 501 (sn 1.5M), and first gilt dial. The case is nice and sharp and I believe everything is correct and original. The movement is nice and clean, the seller claims it was recently serviced and its looks and performance appear to support that claim. The crystal looks too good to be the original one but it does have a faint thin logo in the center and the pink retaining ring is tarnishing at the edges so it might be. The medallion is slightly worn from use but still nice and well defined. I think this one deserves to be paired with its correct buckle so I posted a WTB and a member already contacted me with one that is looking like a good match. I usually roll my eyes when people go overly dramatic on describing watches but the way all the facets of these rose gold indices glimmer in the light is just delightful. Hope you like it even with the bad pictures, the seller had done a better job. A couple seller pictures:
Nice! it looks very similar to one paraded around here a few years ago... https://omegaforums.net/threads/new-addition-to-the-connie-family.5142/
I was thinking the exact same thing. Looks kinda similar to a watch you & I are both familiar with also, eh?
Thanks everyone! I had found that thread in my research before purchase and comparing the dial patina I believe it to be the exact same watch. I found this one too, with rose gold cap: https://omegaforums.net/threads/another-rose-constellation-for-your-review.43945/
Beautiful watch. Funny how I appreciate the aging of a black dial and at the same time like my white and silver dials sqeaky clean.
Nice pick up, @micampe. So this is a 501 calibre (19 jewel) movement? Looks to be in great shape!! Enjoy it in good health!!
