In Japan... what do you guys think of those Grand Seiko?

Thinking of buying this watch from BIC Camera... 360000 yen list price but 340000 with discount ($4000 Canadian inclusive). I think it’s a Japanese domestic model, 37.3 mm size and < 12 mm thick. Light ivory dial. It’s hand-wind with display back. The dial is sloped towards the periphery and the hands are actually sloped with it (hard to tell this head-on but can tell if looking at an extreme angle). Please excuse the dirty plastic wrap still on the watch...

Personally I think it looks rather classy and timeless, but I feel like maybe it’s too old-school looking? What do you guys think?

I agree... I think it looks classy and timeless. A lot of attention to detail both from a design and manufacturing perspective.

👍

That’s a very classy looking watch! I think it reads very dressy so I be hard pressed to wear it anywhere but wok/after hours. Will that fit your personal style?

Thanks everyone for your feedback! I do like the watch but unfortunately have to take a pass since my SO really hates the design... maybe I’ll secretly pick it up if I’m ever on a trip to Japan without her haha.

After seeing it again the other thing that started to bother me was how the end/distal 1/3 of the hands bend backwards to follow the curve of the dial and not sure how much I like this since it becomes fairly obvious when viewed at an angle... maybe next time I’ll look into a GS with a flush dial.

Looks like I’m going to be staying with just my black 8500 Aqua Terra for now.

She was probably jealous 😀 buy her one too!
That Grand Seiko is probably one of the few I would actually buy from them. And getting one in Japan while on a trip is even better 😉

If I were to ever sell my Seamaster it could be for a Grand Seiko like this one.
