I think this is quite nice on Ebay 105012

when it's listed on the world's most popular auction site, at less than 1/2 the price listed on OF, for more than SIX months, yes it's interesting. while acknowledged the possibility of a conflict of interest, this individual has demonstrated integrity on this forum and others for years. if someone pays more than they would have, they do have added value of assurance that this watch is solid, and thoroughly vetted by an (im)partial cabinet of rivals.

I knowledge this sentiment - but my point that a 105.012 for $5400 (as it was, now $7,500) is something interesting and worth discussing on this knowledge led forum.

This forum has a history of offering price predictions on watches actively on sale at auction. Many of us enjoy threads like this, following an auction and hearing discussions regarding the attractiveness and integrity of the watch. This watch has been on sale for months. Only now is it offered at auction, and an interesting price - it was not interesting before. So surely a legitimate subject for discussion.

Will a potential buyer be forced to pay more as a result of this thread? Its a fair point to consider. I think not.

I have always thought a correctly listed item on Ebay is NEVER going to fly under the radar.

Like all vintage watches, it is about finding the sweet spot where price meets attraction. Once the price goes too high then its out of the running.

Why is there uneasiness here? I can see it might be because I said I liked it for the price. (which at the time was 5400)

I think I will choose my words more carefully in future, but I will keep posting threads about speedmasters....I like them, and like reading about them, and what people think about them
I think anyone looking to buy a vintage speedmaster will always have an eye on ebay, so I don't think this thread will change anything. I'm sure collectors on this forum often look to see what's on offer, even if they're not in the market to buy one.

There are very few vintage Speedmasters on ebay, so like you say, they won't fly under the radar.

I love the piece and I think it will go beyond 10k, IMHO opinion some visibility provided by positive review from the experts in the forum may bring an added premium for the buyer, It may push someone who wasn’t 100% in the market for a nice speedy to be interested (or at least it had this effect on me) however I think the benefit of giving more comfort to a potential buyer about it offsets the drawback of a higher purchase price (see it as a certification of quality without having to spend money in advance and then come to the forum for validation).

Since I’m still a noob for condition assessment, and so far nobody mentioned it, is the reset pusher a replacement? Case and pusher are still difficult to me, but in this case the two pushers differ slightly, But maybe it’s just the angle the picture was taken..
Thanks

Pushers were mentioned by the OP in his initial post.

Has happened so many times, I have lost count already...
eBay has a far greater reach than OF, or any other forum.
Even though I prefer not selling through Evilbay, sometimes you just gotta move stuff on.
Will it sell for more than my asking price here? Most likely not. Especially with the added sales tax now for US buyers. But again, eBay has 167 Million users. All it needs is just two that decide they must have this watch, and everything could happen from there...

Good luck to all!

Something tells me many here are waiting for the auction to end and will make you a direct offer based on the winning bid.

Something tells me that if a member wants the watch, he should bid on it.

let’s not stop discussing auction (or not) speedmasters here! Learning from the OG members is one of the many reasons I am here

MOISYS (my opinion into something you said) acronym sounds really weird. 😵‍💫

MOISYS!...😕 That's not an acronym!😕.... I thought that was the name of the bloke who led the Israelites out of captivity in Egypt! 😕

For completeness; the auction ended a bit lower than I thought. (Kicking myself for not buying it at that price...)

The market has spoken and based on this and other recent results may be softening a little.

Could be indeed, although there could be many other factors at play here, for example (Sales) taxes. In my personal case I’d go with the right watch for sale in the wrong places. Duties and vat payable at import into the Eu would have made this one very expensive still...

Since ebay charges tax now for US buyers need to factor around 10% more to final price.

Market is most definitely softening, this was a $12k watch 12 months ago, per Speedmaster 101.

Expectations need to be reset accordingly.

I'm surprised it sold for this much given how soft the market is.
