I think I spent to much time with that other watch company.

I just recently got a Globemaster annual calendar. I was all set to buy another watch with a crown on the dial but the dealer that I work with showed me this watch and said, you need to consider this one.

I have a few Omega's as well (most notably, a 1950s Seamaster and a caliber 1861 Speedmaster pro). I never expected to see this kind of quality at this price point on a watch (keeping in mind I have been living in Rolex land for a while.

For about 7K

I have a watch that is basically MRI compliant (1.5 Tesla). I wouldn't recommend wearing it into the study. The watch boasts 15,000 gauss protection. The competition has the Millgaus (The watch I intended to buy) and that has 1,000 gauss protection (The green glass looks nice, but I'd rather have a great design).

The watch that I bought has an annual calendar. The competition has one like that! It's called the Skydweller. If you want one, let's just say that you are going to pay a bundle (4-5X what I paid for the Globemaster).

This one came with a fluted bezel, a glass back, and an alligator strap. (The competition only has fluted bezels on these watches). The bracelets on Rolexes are surprisingly polarizing, you either love them, or you hate them. What you can't do is buy an alternative from the brand.

The box. I know it's a silly thing to care about, but when you spend good money on something, the packaging matters. Every time I get a watch that comes in one of those green boxes with the crown on it I cringe a little. Those boxes are plastic and really don't impress. The Globemaster was sold to me in a wooden box, with a leather interior.

So, that's my review. I really enjoy having this watch. If you haven't had the chance, and you are looking for something different, I recommend that you take a look. This watch didn't come with a crown, but there is a star on the dial!

I have to admit that I don't find the abbreviated month names on the dial very appealing. But if the OP likes it, good for him. That's what makes the hobby interesting.

I'm not sure I would get the annual calendar model but, the Globemaster has been on my wish list for a while now. To me it's a classic dress watch look especially on an alligator strap and something missing from my collection of tool watches.

Nice one!
Is there any reason why globemasters have a star on their dial? Or is it just a styling thing.

Well there’s a star on the dial and an observatory on the case back’s center, the globemaster is a descendant of the 60’s constellation, so to me it makes sense.
Some people here might know way more than I do and might be able to give you all the whereabouts about this watch,
Cheers

It is probably because the original constellations from 1950’s (perhaps all the omega constellations watches) have the star on dial. The globemaster was American import badge of constellation at that time due to a copyright issue with Douglas C-124 aircraft.

Yes, it could be just the styling thing from the beginning anyway.

The following are from the book ‘a journey through time’.

Homage to the original constellations.

Geez, Some of you guys sound like the former East German judges at the Olympics. “And now the scores: 9.9, 9.5, 10, 9.6. 9.7 … and a 4 from the OF judges.” 😀

It's not ok to give honest opinions? After all, it's not IG.

Of course it is. I included a smiley face with my comments.

Yes! They increased with dial size and, added the annual calendar (on mine) and they also added the George Daniels design for the escapement. The dial has facets like the old-school constellations as well. I realize that most people don't think of watches like this when they consider Omega (it's usually Dive watch or Speedmaster). IMHO: I think this one is worthy of a second look.

Just a note about what an annual calendar is - when a month has 31 days, nothing special happens at the end, other than the month indicator clicking over to the next month. When a month has less than 31 days, the mechanism knows this, advances to the next month, and resets the date function to "1" when the next month begins. It does this every month except for February.
