I did not realize I wanted a Speedmaster

Until I signed up to this forum. I had no massive desire to own a speedmaster. But now I am strangely drawn to it.

I realise that the standard SPEEDY with hesalite is ok, but I like the exhibition back. If funds where no option I would choose the Speedmaster “Dark Side Of The Moon”

Thanks guys for indulging me.

I owned the DSOTM for an afternoon (had to catch and release to pay for a grail). At first it didn't really bug me as I thought I wasn't really a Speedy kind of guy. I much preferred Seamasters and specifically the PO which I now have several examples of. Boy was I ever wrong.

After helping 4 buddies acquire Speedmasters, and then getting one again myself (44.25mm 9300 movement black dial stainless) I'm absolutely hooked! I can't help but to have convinced myself that I now "need" that model in Ti, orange gold, Grey Side, and possibly the black-black. All four of which are on the "someday" list but still, it's crazy how hard the Speedy bug has bit me.

I was always partial to the Seamaster because I grew up watching Goldeneye. When I finally got one, it had to go in for an issue about six months later.

While it was in for service, the OB gave me a sapphire Speedmaster as a store loaner watch. Since then, it seems like I’ve been increasingly drawn to them.

They’re great watches and they have a ton of history to help bolster the story. I do think a lot of the interest comes from the sheer number of posts all over the various sites and blogs - interest by repetitive exposure.

I mean, what's not to like?
Great proportions, understated in a good way, better looking than a Daytona (cheaper too!) and has been to the freakin' moon!

I was in the same boat as you 4 years ago when I was trying to decide which Omega watch would be my first. I spent a lot of time considering the various Seamaster models and somehow ended up with a Speedmaster instead. Mine has both a hesalite crystal and a display back though.

Oh that thread has never been of any interest to me.
Thanks though.

You are very correct, I actually bought a Seamaster, had it for a month & traded it in on a 38mm Speedmaster, primarily because I found I preferred the look of a Speedy. As you can see, if you buy a standard Speedy Pro, it can only lead to more, they tend to multiply on your wrist! Resistance is futile, you (& I) will be assimilated!
