I was 99.9% sure I did not want an Apple watch...now I'm 100%

I’m in the minority, as I really like my Apple Watch. Sadly though, I don’t wear it often, as I really Love my mechanical watches and I just can’t come to grips with the two-wrist thing. I drive a lot in unfamiliar places and in different vehicles. The navigation alerts are very useful to me. I also like the stealth glance for messages and alerts which allows me to keep my phone in my pocket.

In a perfect world, my Apple Watch wouldn’t be a watch at all. But just a band to display inside my wrist, sans time, while one of the nice mechanicals sits atop my wrist for time function and the warm feelings they give me.

I sold my version 0 apple watch and bought a speedie professional. You know how nice mechanical watches develop a patina when you have them for a while? the apple watch's version of patina is a battery that lasts 5 hours and siri no longer responding to your requests. Skip the gimmicks..

My 20 year old daughter is in college working towards her Nursing degree and is already working as a nurse at a local hospital. I had always planned on getting her a nice Omega upon graduation as a gift that she could use in her career. One of the things she wanted this Christmas was an Apple Smartwatch because all the nurses have them. Well, she received one on Christmas Eve from her grandparents. She immediately set it up and started wearing it. Being a millennial, she has really never worn a watch, so that is taking some getting used to. I spent all day with her yesterday and she was starting to get a little annoyed as the text messages kept coming. After awhile, I would hear her groan every time she got another message. So, maybe a nice mechanical watch for graduation might still happen.

I guess I'm old school. Yes, I am up on technology and texting and the sort, but it is way down the list of things that make me happy. Group texts that never end make me bat shit crazy, sometimes. I appreciate not being bothered once in awhile.😀 So, seeing her just a little annoyed having her wrist buzzing made it clear to me that I am perfectly happy staying mechanical on my wrist. Crystal clear.

100% agree

My sentiments exactly. There is (and will be) additional benefits to smart watches. Already there is an app that tracks your heart rate and warns for abnormalities. It has saved lives already. I’m participating in a scientific study of the same. Or would be if my Apple Watch hadn’t been sitting on my headboard since January.

I had this idiot in the gym with those stupid blue tooth earbuds in his ears going on and on about how his watch talks with his IPhone and blah blah. I held up my speedie and my I Pod classic and said ... "old school" ... he's an idiot because his bragging about his tech led to a dissertation on how he hates paying for health insurance for his employees.
You should have said « mine went to the Moon » warf

After buying my girlfriend multiple mechanical watches, I've come to realize that watch taste can't be forced on someone. If someone likes the apple watch, let them be happy. I wouldn't mind one in the collection for exercise, but I have a running watch already.

If I were very wealthy I would not even have pockets on my suits. I'd have an entourage of lackies ready to hand me a handkerchief if I wished to blow my nose, light my thousand dollar cigars or check my messages etc. But I would still wear a nice mechanical watch.

That's a great idea.
I've seen a few vintage watches that had a meta; expansion band with a small tape like calendar on rollers built in. Those I've seen usually had hand inked notations on the dates, perhaps appointments or birthdays. A thumb wheel advanced the calendar as necessary.

One might find a compact smart watch that could be adapted to fit into a recess in the band, or the band of the smart watch adapted to hold a mechanical wath on the other side of the wrist.

PS
I've seen the Peugot Drs watch replica on Ebay at a much lower cost than that quoted on the site i linked to.
