how much of a fail boat is the trilogy series?

The SM looks great on the tan leather strap. I tried it on with it and it sets it off beautifully.

I need to stop reading this thread or else there will be a seamaster on the way at some point....

Agreed! The tan compliments the lume so nicely.

Conversely, the matte finish black strap compliments the dial color.

They must have been given the railmaster straps. Did you get the mustard nato which went with the RM or the brown one for the SM?

The NATO i received was a mustard color.

Perhaps a swap of straps was made between a RM set and my SM set at a customer's request in order to make a sale?

Yes, all three watches are extremely versatile and omega got the strap/nato colours pretty much spot on IMO.

Yes, but sometimes they just put the wrong ones in the boxes. I’ve seen some grey market ones with the wrong straps too.

Either way, the RM straps are nice too.

A nice mix of classic and modern. Give the RM a go on a leather strap, it really changes the feel. I'll probably give the SM a go like that next.

What about this?

Very appealing.

Which bracelet is that? Omega?

Yes. 1068 with endlinks that came up with the RM.
The 1068 was originally made up for Constellations.

Did anyone here buy theirs new?

I bought my Seamaster new from an Omega Boutique, full price. I knew it would likely be available for less on the secondary market, but I really like it and didn't mind paying more for it up front. I'll be buying a Railmaster at some point but likely on the secondary market.

I also bought my Speedmaster new from an AD late last year at list price. I was lucky to find one new since these were already on the market for more than what I paid... and now that the Pakistani rupee has depreciated significantly, it was a bargain 😗

In London, I don’t think so. I know the boutiques had 3 or so around Christmas time but they were all gobbled up....

I may have had something to do with that .. 😗

The SM on leather! I love it

This store in San Jose, CA still has a RM and another SM in stock.

You and me both. Never really looked at any of the trilogy series till this thread started and now eyeing them all up!!

To compound matters, this weekend I noticed my AD has a seamaster trilogy model available. Somehow managed to resist trying it on. I knew it would have been game over if I did.

I think all three watches are excellent, the level of detail that went into the reproduction is impressive.

I have wondered why the Speedmaster, in particular, wasn't more popular, given that this is really the only way to get anything close to a 2915 for a "reasonable" price. My thinking is it comes down to two issues, first I think some were turned off by the fake patina. Second, I think the lack of connection to the space program makes this one a little less desirable by some.

In any event, I am a fan. The closest I will ever get to being able to wear a 2915

Hits the nail on the head.

Certain watches, are out of reach financially for 99.9999% of us - paul newmans and this original speedy, so really if we're gonna die one day, why not cop a reissue!

Currently at Chrono24 there are 26 sets of the Trilogy. I was astonished. 26 out of 357 I think in total. Either a lot of flippers or really many consider them a fail boat as the thread suggests.

I believe there is actually 557 trilogy sets. If there is 26 sets for sale in Chrono24, that is about 4.6% of the total sets listed now. I actually like the Trilogy set. I might just pick one up if I can find a good deal. Seems to be just the right time!

On a side note, this is exactly what happened to Audemars Piguet 15400. Everyone thought it was a fail boat, especially if you’re a purist wearing a 15202. Just a few years back, they were trading for under $12k while retail was $18k. Today, can’t even get your hands on one. They are well over 30k. We all love and appreciate the trilogy watches. We can celebrate knowing we can swoop up a couple of watches for the best price right now. To answer the question of this thread, I don’t think the trilogy is a fail boat. We have to understand, there is 10,681 individual pieces and 557 trilogy sets, and It’s only been 2 years

Wasnt that the story for the paul newman as well? They werent selling as much so production wasnt long.

Just have to buy because you want it now. Not because of what one hopes it will be worth in the future.
