how much of a fail boat is the trilogy series?

Wasnt that the story for the paul newman as well? They werent selling as much so production wasnt long.

Just have to buy because you want it now. Not because of what one hopes it will be worth in the future.

Are we suggesting that this set of heritage faux-patina lumed watches is tangentially comparable to one of the most famously auctioned watches of the era on the logic of “few like it now and it plummeted in value initially so...?”

If that’s the case then there’s lotsa “Paul Newman(s)” out there to buy.

Exactly, IMHO, there are several types of groups in Horological areas, the enthusiast (hobbyist) who likes interesting watches and actually wears them, the collector (sometimes an accumulator who has no specific interest) who has an interest in watches and wants to have an assortment of representative types, sometimes very specific. Some of each group become "flippers" if/when they become bored or dissatisfied with a particular piece or see an opportunity to upgrade. Then there's the Investor types, (buy low or get in on a rare piece that they know will skyrocket) and sell when a profit opportunity happens. There's a real parallel to mid-high end gun collectors. Difference is in firearms, re-issues or commemoratives/special editions virtually never appreciate or approach the value of a mint or unfired scarce original, there is no parrell to things like a Speedy Tuesday or White-faced Snoopy. However, the things that determine real value are still: Condition, Scarcity & Demand, all buffered and rendered mute by significant historical (proven & documented) provenance. Me, I'm a hobbyist who likes quality watches, especially those with interesting history. Learning the when, the how and the why (& the who) makes it enjoyable for me.

I got my Trilogy Set!!! I feel like a win boat
That's a very nice set, can't believe all the swag that comes with it! Hopefully each will bring you pleasure when you wear it, certainly enough variety & differences where you could do daily, weekly or even monthly change-offs, with the strap assortment, you'll never be bored. Adds new meaning to "Collect the whole set"!
Congrats!

Currently deliberating!

My local AD managed to get this RM LE in for me, few scratches on the side of the case but in the sale at £4000 (roughly 20% off retail) with possibly a little more off if I negotiate like a badass.

Whilst I was in there I thought I’d take a look at the current RM which weirdly I really liked, this had never really appealed but in the flesh it’s pretty great.

Sounds like a good deal! It's good to know some discount can he had on trilogy models

The trilogy looks much better imho. I can't stand all this litterature (co-axial...) on the dial.

If I owned the set of 3.
I would never buy another watch.
Speedy for everyday
Rail for dress
Sea for diving/summer
or
Speedy for dress and rail for everyday.

Never considered any of the trilogy pieces before, until I started reading this thread.

Now, I've have just gone and bought a pre-owned railmaster trilogy. Was a toss up between this and the seamaster. The deal on the railmaster was too good to pass up, so pulled the trigger!

Going to have to stop reading these threads!!!

I would argue looking at your photo that the current Railmaster looks the better one. Bracelet, dial ,crown and hands look just better to me. The other just looks dull in comparison. I don't own either. Just my opinion

I own the Trilogy set and use them a as follows.
Railmaster with a suit.
Seamaster with casual dress.
Speedmaster with jeans.
Love the bracelets and the printed numbers on the dial don't bother me.

i think my choice has to be the seamaster. although i could easily flip. the rm polished bezel rubs me the wrong way.

seems like the rm gives you the best discount though...dunno where the speedy fits in...they just all seem the same

Not sure what you mean about 'fits in'. They are all essentially repros of watches from the late '50s. The Speedmaster is a copy of the 2915.

definitely not a 'fail boat' here... I think these will become more desirable with the passing years, even though 10,000+ watches is not a small number...

My Railmaster came today!

Switched it onto the black strap and been wearing since lunch time. I hadn't actually seen it in the flesh, till today, and, thankfully, it is indeed a stunning watch.

I've always loved the broad arrow handset and I also think the lume colour warms up the dial and makes the watch look less sterile

Was going to have a crack at resizing the bracelet.

Never done this before, is it quite easy?

Can someone advise on the tools needed and where I can get them.

Help is appreciated 😀

Makes me wish even more that I had mine back from the service center for the water-ingress issue. Today marks three weeks since I dropped it off and the online info still says waiting for parts. Can’t wait to get that bad boy back on my wrist.
