How many watches in your collection before its too much?

A little background about myself, I started getting interested in luxury watches back in 2019 and have been buying/selling/trading watches as a way to fund the hobby. I've had times where I had 15-20 watches at once and only found myself being drawn to 2-3 at a time. Usually, after 4-6 months I would find myself being drawn to another 2-3 watches in the collection. I think for me 4-5 watches would be the perfect collection size. Interested in seeing everyone else's answer and the reason behind it.

20 isn鈥檛 nearly enough. You have barely scratched the surface my friend. 馃榿

And 4-5 wouldn鈥檛 even qualify as a collection. 馃槈

According to the Australian board of watch & Australian Moloch preservation that number is 847. Assuming there are no more then 1 Molochs per family member. (4 per family of 4 for those of you not adroit with advanced Australian mathematics)

You get to a point in life when you start dealing them off. That鈥檚 the stage I鈥檓 at.

The sky (disposable income) is the limit.

I鈥檇 collect them all if I could. Bearing in mind the problem of scarcity, a diverse and high-quality 6-7 piece collection is ideal.

That is you need 1 diver, 1 chrono, 1 GMT, 1 dress, 1 datejust/AT type and a flieger.

When I can't name all of them after about 30 minutes, it's probably time to consider selling the ones I forgot (I'm still under 20, not my fault so few watches temp my wallet 馃槣)

Peak watch? that's not a thing is it?
I stopped counting at 200, after that I told my wife I am not buying any more. That was about 6 months ago but I still seem to be averaging 2 to 3 a week .
The trouble is there are too many watches that I like.

For me, I鈥檓 happiest with 3 watches - that gives me plenty of variety. If I have more (and I have 5 at the moment) I tend to wear 2-3 regularly and the others just sit in my box.

I could actually probably go to 2 and by happiest. For me, the pleasure in owning the watches is interacting with them. And if I have too many, I think I should wear them regularly, but when I do, I always miss the one or a two I really want to be wearing,

I have a rule for weapons, watches, & whiskey. The correct number for your collection is always x+1, where x = the current number in inventory.

Wait! You collect whisk(e)y bottles that are empty? How curious! Mine I take to the recycling bank as soon as I have drunk the contents.

Definitely not. I collect different whiskies that open and enjoy & share. The amazing variety of whiskies is mind-boggling. There are currently ~80 bottles opened on the shelf. My favorites earn a spare bottle in case it gets hard to find. When a bottle is emptied, it鈥檚 tossed.

This thread need some pictures. Sorry, if I added the same pic twice.

We need to change the formula apparently. We need to make the time between purchases a function of x. 馃槜

So, which is your favourite? 馃槑
It鈥檚 impossible to pick your favorite and this is only 1/3rd of the collection.

20? You've got to pump those numbers up. I have ten wrist watches and something like twelve pocket watches in my regular rotation. I there's the watches that need a little service of some sort. I am trying to sell one watch right now, I'm just not trying very hard.
