How is someone on Amazon selling a "New" Moonwatch for $2750?

Who needs the hassle of a protracted refund ordeal? Been there and even with an honest and fair seller making things right, it’s a headache and major pain in the ass.

I’m positively consumed with getting either a FOIS, or a Speedy Pro at a price that allows room to buy a leather strap/deployant. My budget is limited so I search like a mad bastard for new and used hoping for a good deal. I balance cost and above all, legitimacy. Buying new for a price like that sets off my spider sense (Speedy sense?). I smell BS.

Of all sites, OF is the only one that I feel 99.99% comfortable with. Amazon? Sure. But not for watches.

It's a new seller with no feedback on a site that isn't typically a go to for buying luxury watches, and this is worthy of discussion? Come on guys, we're better than this. BUY THE SELLER, ALWAYS!

Want to troll around on Amazon, look and add to reviews like this classic: https://www.amazon.com/Zenith-96-05...showViewpoints=0&tag=vs-watchuseek-convert-20
I absolutely agree but I think it is worthy of discussion because even if one us fall for any scam, however elementary, it is something we should all empathize with. Today's low level scammers grow up to be big time forgers tomorrow, fooling even the educated collectors. So, yeah we should all watch each other's backs in my humble opinion.🤔

scam...

don't try. the shipping-arriving time usually 1-2 months and you won't get anything from amazon until the estimated arrival time has passed
I was scammed on amazon once by a 3rd party. Took 3.5 month to get my money back.

I emailed the seller asking how they could be selling at what appears to be below dealer cost and this is what they sent back.

“Because the store's capital turnover is difficult, the goods are now sold at low prices. The watch is brand new with a warranty card and all accessories.”

Doesn’t read like a message from a native English speaker. Most fake watches are made in Asia so I’m guessing that’s where this seller is located.

And the best advice we can give the OP, a new poster and obviously new to collecting, is exactly what I wrote above. That someone who is frequenting here is also watch hunting on Amazon is troublesome, sure. What's more troublesome, and really doesn't speak well to your point, is that it took two pages before @mydeafcat and myself gave the OP meaningful advice.

EDIT- apologies, I didn't see your post before on page 1 about the scammers.

News travels fast as I was sent this by a fellow collector as well. As soon as I saw the new account, “of its too good to be true...” kicked in.

Not watch hunting on Amazon. I’m price comparing Moonwatches in probably 50-100 sites and this price jumped out to me. You have some ego to your posts on this thread and the other posters call for humility on your part would be welcome.

Price comparing on multiple sites would be considered by most as watch hunting; you included Amazon in that list of sites and decided to make it the subject of the thread, so forgive me and anyone else who got the impression you were looking to buy a watch from there at an apparent favorable price.

As for the impression of ego in this thread, consider it more of a 'been there/done that' attitude. I actually offered up good advice based on lessons learned from my mistakes as well as those offered to me by more experienced posters. I notice you didn't have a problem with that post as you didn't quote it. As for my tone, I went ahead and apologized for what I saw was an over-reach on my part to the poster I quoted. Should I do more?

Since you see me as all full of salt & vinegar already, I'll go ahead and give you some unsolicited advice; follow the sticky and create an avatar for your screen name, it would go a little way in people taking you as a true member of the community. Of course, you're also more than welcome to tell me to GFY, to which I will simply step aside and leave you to your price comparing.

Probably a fake, but another scam I've seen (not watches) is a seller that sells authentic items below cost, BUT they only send out the item to half the people that actually paid. So half of buyers get the real product at a good price and the other half get nothing. There are positive reviews that are real and the seller gets a decent profit ripping people off before bailing...

I came across this same thing on amazon a few weeks ago when I was shopping for a speedmaster. At that time the price was even cheaper, about $2500.00 I believe. Seemed like a scam to me at the time so I passed. Seller was brand new at that time also.
For the OP I would echo others advise and say go for a seller here on OF. That is what I did and it was a great transaction, fair price and no worries of being scammed.

This is a fraud. It happens on several products. Last time I saw a good deal on Sonos Play 5 speakers that were being sold for $150. I bought 4. Luckily Amazon has awesome policy, it refunded my money.
So beware of it.

No! Other half should and probably would initiate a claim on Amazon , Amazon will refund the money and ban the seller in such an obvious case of a fraud.

I still don't understand how the seller makes money if the customer returns the item...
they hope the buyer is too dumb or they're gone with the money before an A-to-Z claim is filed after it is released and deposited by Amazon to the seller's bank account

With caution, there are good deals to be had on Amazon. I purchased a Fortis Pilot Chronograph a few years back on a lightning deal. Absolutely no issues with shipment or the watch. If I remember correctly, this one was sold through Amazon though and they were an authorized Frotis dealer then.

Amazon is a huge store-front with all sorts of sellers under the umbrella. I'm not sure how this guy makes money, as these watches are sure to be fake or non-existent.

Bottom line--with the internet opening markets and all, everyone "knows what they have."

If you want a deal on a Speedy (I want a deal on a speedy too!), there are a few ways:
1. Buy new from gray-market seller like DavidSW, etc.
2. Buy used from a trusted re-seller on the forum.
3. Buy used from private party (non-dealer type).

But If the seller is basically under-cutting these options by $1000, you know something is awry.
